As Martin Buber once said, “an animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language”. As the years go by, numerous animals are becoming extinct by man’s lack of compassion. They used to roam freely, without fear, in the wild, although; with rising population, the wilderness is no longer their home. Therefore, the animals are forced to share their land with uncompassionate humans. One example is the Borneo Pygmy Elephant found in Southeast Asia. Their thriving population has diminished to less than 1,500 in the past years. An analysis of the endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephant shows their characteristics and habitat, what is threatening them, and how they can be saved.…

All while his mind was flipping through the big book of naughtiness, to his very favorite page, page number 13, to the section clearly and quite boldly marked...wait for it...naughty things to do with the help of an elephant! Number one; find a lake. Bingo! (And when I say bingo I mean, remember there is a lake right there! By the grey elephant! ) Number two; get on the grey elephant and ride him to the lake, get him to fill his trunk with water and ride him to the school. When the principal runs out sputtering and spitting from his angry red face about the dangers of wild gray elephants in the parking lot...swoosh! Let him have it, (and by it I mean a face full of nasty, stinky elephant trunk water.) It was all so exciting,( and when I say exciting I mean “fraught with danger”,) that Lambkin was giddy with naughtiness. He trotted right up to the elephant. “Pick me up.” He shouted, leaping up to yell into his big flapping ear. The elephant just swatted his tail and turned…

The result of the chemical reaction is alcohol. First the sugar dissolves in the water. The fermentation process depends on the type of yeast and determines when it should be ready. In this recipe the mash can ferment from somewhere around six to fourteen days. You will know when the mash is ready when it stops bubbling. You can use a screen wire or a tee shirt to filter the sour mash. There are many different devices that can be used for a still but a plenty efficient item is a pot still. The kettle should have copper tubing and also an accurate thermometer. A hole for the thermometer and a hole for the copper tubing must be drilled. After your holes are drilled, it is time to connect the condenser. Making the condenser may be the most difficult part of the process. One inch copper should be wrapped in a spiral and be sure to assure there are zero kinks. The copper needs to be thoroughly sealed and dried. Test runs to ensure it is properly sealed is also a good idea. As soon as the condenser and the pot still are set up you will need to pour the sour mash into the pot and heat it to 173 degrees Fahrenheit (Manning). After pouring the mix into the pot, be sure to place a cork or stopper into the spout of the kettle. Then carefully watch the thermometer until it reaches the necessary temperature. As the temperature rises, the alcohol will rise to the top of the pot. As the alcohol heats…

Both male and female elephants possess tusks, which are modified incisor teeth. Although tusks are present at birth, the “baby tusks” fall out after a year, and permanent ones replace them. These tusks will continue to grow throughout the elephant’s life. Similar to the trunk, elephant tusks are utilized in a wide range of activities. They are used for digging, foraging, and fighting. At times, they also act as a resting place for the elephant’s very heavy trunk.…
