Why Did The United States Join World War I?

World War I, the first world war, broke out in the year 1914 in Europe. The two-different sides in the war were named the Allies and the Central Powers. Eventually, as the war progressed, several countries pledged their alliance to a side. The Allies consisted of Russia, France, and Britain. The Central Powers subsisted of Germany, Austro-Hungary, Turkey and joining later were the Italians. The United States at this point in history had policies in place that were very dissimilar to the policies of present day United States. At this time in history the United States had more of an isolationist view point and believed staying neutral in this conflict was the safer option. Due to this view point, it was approximately three years before the United States entered World War I on the side of the Allied Powers.

As a result of this, almost eighty women were held as prisoners of war. These women were let loose after a few months. Overall, the women were just as scared as men in World War I. These women were subjected to the same gore and sights of heart wrenching outcomes as the men fighting. The emotional toll on the women who experienced the sights of carnage were high. In some cases many of the women in certain roles ended up with similar stress disorders as some of the men returning home from the front lines.
