why college is important
Higher Education People these days come from everywhere around the world with alternate ideas and goals some choose school and others choose work. Some choose school because they see all of the opportunities that come with an education while others choose work because school is either not for them or it is financially not a choice for them. Recently it has been difficult to get into a profession that you need to manage without having some kind of experience or a degree. Acquiring a degree is exceptionally valuable not only will you be happy your peer’s will see how hard you’ve worked and be pushed to accomplish more themselves. There is a point in time when you understand you have to seek after a higher school training to have a higher wage and be financially steady. Some individuals don't think seeking after a school training is vital in today's general public but in todays businesses they want more than just experience. A degree is what makes you standout amongst the community, which will keep pushing you to accomplish your goals and make them reality. Today people gauge whether they go to college or don’t by the cost of it and how much time they have. When seniors are applying for college they are also applying for scholarships and loans Sixty-six percent of all undergraduates received some type of financial aid in 2007–08. For those who received any aid, the total average amount received was $9,100”(nces.ed.gov)’’. Unfortunately this financial aid still doesn’t cover enough of the tuition and the students have to take the rest out with bank loans that will take them a decade to pay off. This frightening thought of having to pay the government each month for your educations turns kids away and would rather save the money they make from working than pay it to the government. Many jobs require specialized skills, knowledge and practical training that only a college degree and program can provide. Granted not all jobs require a college degree, but many

Now, many might argue that college is the only way to secure a good job position and the only reason to get a degree. Jeffrey Selingo, a professor at the University of Arizona and the former editor of the Chronicle of Higher Education, writes that students and their parents prefer to obtain a bachelor's degree designated to a specific area; for example, the most popular today is business. That is why “students and their families, faced with big tuition bills, want to be sure to pick a major that leads to a job after graduation. ” (Selingo) That is to say, parents and students are worried that their investment in education can be wasted and hope to get a return in the future.…

Therefore, returning back to school to complete my degree was a very rational decision for me to make. We are sometimes told that experience is the key to getting the perfect job, but in my years in the workforce I have learned that is not always the case. In a society where a college education is necessary to attain a job, people will pay any price to get a degree. Since 1965 government assistance programs such as FAFSA have made attending college much more simple for the working class. However, such programs focus much of their efforts on assisting lower income students and fail to contribute to students from middle class families. Middle class students or their parents are caught in a situation in which they must pay for all of their college funds, or they are put into debt from the outrageous amount of loans. Financial aid is based off of the parent’s income until the age of 25, but there are situations in which not parents are able or willing to pay for their child’s education due to the high cost of tuition. Complications of financial aid arise due to the lack of focus in financial assistance for students who come from middle class families. Due to the complications of the financial aid system students from the middle class are forced to choose cheaper schools, go into debt, or enter the work force, yet prices of getting an education are only getting higher. For middle class families options to pay for school are very limited, without financial aid or the funds to pay, a life of debt and worry surely waits.…

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, “Student loans play a huge role in financing higher education, which is crucial to improving the skill of American workers. However, the burden of student debt is close to $1 trillion, and some have different requirements when being paid back.” With the increasing rates of college tuition, students are being required to take out more and more loans because they do not have the massive amounts of money to pay for it themselves. Though many students tend to have jobs in their high school career, most of them do not save anything that they earn. Even if they saved money between the time they can get a job, in which most places require the minimum age to be sixteen, and go to college, it would not be possible for there to be enough money to pay for college tuition out of pocket. Sometimes students cannot get a job due to the dedication to school and lack of time after extracurricular…

College gives you the extended learning skills that employers will look for when you're finding a job.
