Why cellphones should be banned from schools.
Cell Phones are frequently used by students in schools, and it shouldn't be much of a problem. However it is beginning to become detrimental to those students learning. Students, while in class are being distracted by their cell phones, and as a result students are paying less attention in class. Students are also using they're cell phones to cheat in tests. Last of all, Cell Phones are a very effective tool in verbal abuse (through text messaging).

While in class students are learning things which will help them in later life, or important information, which they need to progress in their studies. Many students however, are being distracted in class. This is because of the entertainment provided by cell phones, for example text messaging, music, and games. These do not however have a place in the classroom, just like students are not allowed to watch television in class. This is illustrated everyday in a classroom, although it is not always noticed. This is a reason why cell phones do not have a place in school.

Tests are very important for the teacher, as well as the student, as it helps the student gauge what they do and do not need to learn. With the introduction of cell phones, cheating has become a lot easier, and discrete. This is because cell phones are very easily hidden, meaning one can text message another during a test without anybody else knowing. They can also store information on their cell phones, to which they can access at a later date; this may be during a test. An example of this was recently when several Californian high school students were caught cheating in a test, using there cell phones. They were later punished severely for their actions.

As the capabilities of cell phones increase, many opportunities are becoming available, one of these opportunities is Text bullying. With the help of a cell phone students are able to send abusive text messages, pictures, and video footage, to the victim, or other parties. A great advantage of this is that the Abuser is able to remain anonymous, thus keeping out of trouble. Many communities do not have the technology to be able to trace a cell phone, like a small town for instance. An example of text bullying happened in New Zealand, when a girl was constantly sent abusive texts, one of them stating "no one likes you, Don't bother coming to school". The girl later committed suicide. This is another reason why cell phones should be banned in schools.

As the use of cell phones in school increases, so do the following disadvantages. Students are being distracted in class, restricting their learning. Students are cheating in tests, thus letting themselves and their teachers down. Last of all cell phones are being used as a catalyst bullying, and it is having substantial consequences. Overall cell phones are disadvantageous to students and their use should not be available in schools.

For various reasons, I believe schools should ban the use of cell phones at school. Some people might argue that students could use their cell phones as educational tools; however, personally, I am one of the students who you could say has a “cell phone addiction.” I am usually the one teachers catch texting from the corner of their eye as my fingers move quickly across the keyboard of my cell phone during class. Also, teachers find cell phones distracting. If a student is texting during class they cannot put their full, undivided attention into what the teacher is saying, there for what is the point of trying to explain something to someone who isn’t paying attention. Finally, teachers come to school to educate students because it is their job, and they find it disrespectful if a student isn’t listening.…
