Bones
There are 206 bones in the human body. Bones are extremely important to the skeletal system and human body and have many functions including:
Structural Support: Bones provide support to the Human Body as well as helping it keep it's shape.
Protection: Bones such as the rib cage provide protection for vital organs such as the Heart and Lungs as well as the skull which protects the Brain.
Movement: Bones work with the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons of the body to assist with movement.
Hematopoiesis is the production of red blood cells in the red bone marrow which is found in the heads of long bones such as the femur.
Mineral and Energy Storage: Bones mainly store Phosphorus and calcium. Bones also store Energy and fats in yellow bone marrow.
