Choi 1 Fabio Choi Ms D’addario ENG 2DE Monday April 29, 2013 Organic, the Best in the World Imagine looking at two different apples. One is a big rounded red apple. The other is smaller and less appealing. The first apple looks delicious, illuminating in the light. It seems to be the perfect apple to eat, due to its stunning appearance. A huge bite is taken out of the rich-looking apple; however, it lacks flavour. A bite is then taken out of the diminished apple which is filled with appetizing flavours. That is the problem in today’s world. Every day, millions of people buy foods that only look pleasing without knowing what it can cause. Almost all supermarkets around the world sell genetically modified foods containing deadly toxins. Ever since genetically modified foods were introduced it has been nothing but negative consequences. The solution? Quite simple. Although the physical appearance may not look pleasing, organic foods are the best way to go. The production of organic foods is necessary due to the fact that it is better for the environment, has superior taste, and will benefit people’s overall health. Organic foods benefit the environment since organic farming requires less energy, no toxic chemicals are used which means it will protect wildlife. Organic foods are grown from organic farms which are defined as only applying natural sources such as compost without human-made chemicals to produce food. According to The Rodale Institute, organic farms use 30% less energy and water because of the transportation and production of fertilizers and pesticides are unneeded. The fertilizers and pesticides used on conventional farms have caused wild animals unable to reproduce resulting in death or infection. (Greene) The fertilizers and pesticides used on conventional farms have caused wild…

In today’s society you walk into a grocery store and you always have the option of organic or non organic food. There are even grocery stores dedicated to organic foods like Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and Whole Food market. I personally have gone organic and will never go back to eating or drinking non organic food. Organic food may be pricey but less hormones, less cow puss and blood in your milk, and less pesticides. The controversies about organic food vs non organic food is it worth it? My answer is 100 percent yes organic is the way to go. The fruits and vegetables you get at a normal grocery store that are non organic have several pesticides on it. According to the daily green, ‘ eating organic means avoiding the pesticide residue left on foods.” Though there are mixed reviews on if consuming pesticides hurt your immune system, pregnant women are taking the cautionary steps on making sure their future child will be born healthy and not be exposed to pesticides at an early age. On the Dirty Dozen list, apples are the number 1 food source of 2011, with over 40 known pesticides in just 1 apple. Not surprisingly, pesticide residue is also found in apple juice and apple sauce, making all apple products smart foods to buy organic. Strawberries have over 60 pesticides on it, so while you “wash” your strawberries remember you are eating pesticide residue remains on those strawberries you bought at the food market. 93% of Americans tested by the CDC had metabolites of chlorpyrifos…

Have you ever sat and back and wondered why there are so many obese people in the U.S.? You would think that with all of the buzz about organic foods that we have available, that we would slowly be getting better with our weight as a country. Unfortunately the reality of the situation is organic food are expensive and with the way the economy is today many people are working on a budget and simply cannot afford to splurge on the organic items. So now that we know that lets look at the second half of that equation, Fast Food! Now as much as people criticize the fast food industry it’s convenient and like the name says fast. Now days most people do not want to come home after a long, hard day of work and slave over the stove to cook a hot meal for their family. However what they don’t realize is how much that food is poisoning us. Take McDonalds for example, it has been brought to the public’s attention just what goes on when they are making their food. The food looks like food that you would make in your kitchen, but it is actually manufactured. French fries use to be made by potatoes peeled in the back room and cut into strips. Today they are made in large factories, frozen and processed. Some of the ingredients are very fatty. Even though they have said that they “were” injecting the chicken nuggets with a pink dye, people are still running to the franchise for their food. I am not judging anyone by any means just stating my observations. Now if you think about it most families probably spend about $100 a week on fast food. Why would so people spend so much money on fast food you ask? Its simple it's easy, and it's convenient and inexpensive. Compared to other foods it's something that working people and ordinary people can go out and enjoy. The design of a fast food restaurant is very well thought out. We form our eating habits as children so they try to nurture clients as youngsters. It's very important that the fast food companies make sure that their…
