Who Is Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children?
Walking back to the bus from the theatre, I asked myself, “What was that?” Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a film directed by Tim Burton, based on the popular 2011 novel. It’s also utter garbage. At least that’s what I think, unless you prefer horrible special effects, a rushed story, and characters that are as bland as a blank piece of art.

For starters, the characters in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children are some of the worst I have ever seen (excluding Jurassic Park, of course). Our main character’s name is Jake (Asa Butterfield) and he’s as bland as a blank sheet of paper. He makes a little (besides a small squeak) to no reaction when his Grandpa dies and not much else is known about him that really makes me

The beginning of the story goes really fast until Jake is at the island. This is where the next hour of the movie takes place, and it is probably the slowest pacing I have ever seen. Besides the main story, the film tries to focus on things that don’t really matter too, like how Olive (Lauren McCrostie)) has a fight with Enoch (Finlay MacMillan) because he never listens to her. Near the end of the movie however, Enoch kisses Olive when she’s frozen (during an action seen). We as the viewers are never told how or when Enoch fell in love with her (which ties in with bland characters too). These fights (or side stories) resolve in a way that makes no sense, as if the director had forgotten that these stories were even in the script and just threw a random resolution in later on. Apart from the side stories, the ending was over as fast as my enjoyment while watching this movie. The ending (and I counted) wrapped up in about 10 seconds, and it wasn’t even an ending! The REAL ending happens about ten minutes before, when the peculiars go back to their ship. The ending after that however, is a side story about the relationship between Jake and Ella (Emma Bloom) which slowly turns into love. This ending is also wrapped up in a kiss, which isn’t necessarily bad, but trying something else wouldn’t have …show more content…
The movie felt more like X-men, where you have the side characters and one main character, doing things for two to three hours until the credits roll, causing you to say, “Wait, what?” I recommend you don’t waste your time, money, and popcorn on this movie. You’ll be better off buying the DVD when it's on sale and watch it at home. If you’re the kind of person that likes to stare at the moving pixels on your TV screen, this movie is definitely for you. However, if you prefer an amazing story with proper pacing and detailed characters, then sorry, you’ve come to the wrong door to

Throughout the movie there were some negative things that were present within it. Some of these were how the songs would just randomly begin and could make a certain scene loose its significance and meaning, the plot itself seemed to be a bit predictable and disappointing until a plot-twist occurred. The ending of the movie I found confusing and a cliché. Although there were a few negative aspects present in the movie I still believe it was a successful movie and quite enjoyable.…

I have an odd relationship with this film, it entertained me from start to finish, and at no point did it drag or feel grueling. Some might chock that up to good pacing, but I’d chock it up to lots and lots of brainless and inconsequential explosions. Let me be honest with you for a second, I secretly enjoy a lot of films because I know they’re bad, but that doesn’t make them any less enjoyable. This film is going to fit nicely into that collection of films I liked more than my brain tells me I should have. A lot of people are going to…

Some actors acted and appeared entirely different in the movie than the book. The directing and special effects were okay in some scenes, but half-baked and lousy in others. Furthermore, the characters are developed far less in the film and many semi-important scenes in the novel are excluded in the film. Do not watch this movie unless you have read the novel (or even if you have read it). If you haven’t read the book and decide to watch the movie instead, you will fail to understand the complicated relationships between each character and between the Socs and Greasers and just think the movie is substandard and all aspects of the movie lacked in action, emotion, or just seemed like they were not well thought out. A 3.5/10 may seem harsh, but I was not pleased. Just go read the book instead. It had the potential to be a great film, but severely missed the…

First the movie did a very poor job in portraying many of the characters such as Henri. In the book Henri it seems like Henri cares a lot for John ,but in the movie Henri seems detached from John. It looks like Henri would rather be doing something else. Another major problem was the scenes they skipped which formed bonds between characters. This makes the viewer lose their attachment to the characters. The movie also skipped a lot of the scenes in which Henri and John bonded together.…

I am going to be honest, this is the first time I have ever read, or even picked up for that matter, a comic book. So I really did not know what to expect. I did not feel like I would be interested in this book at all, considering I have never really been into the fantasy world kind of things, plus the fact that I have never been into reading to begin with. I have seen the batman and avengers movies just like everybody else has, but I was never really able to dive into the comic book scene as a child, so I did not feel that I would enjoy reading this book at all. But man was I wrong. The action and anticipation of what would happen next came on every single page. I was hooked right from…

Even though the characters were exciting with their conflicts, I disliked how the story ended. I of course don’t want to give it away, but it ended very soon. The story was going on and on and it seems as soon as the climax hits, it plummeted to an abrupt end. Everything stopped, tragedy happened, and it was over.…
