Abigail Williams: The Crucible
The Crucible is a drama that is exciting and intriguing with unforgettable characters. One of the main characters from the play is Abigail Williams, she is complex and at times the reader wonders why she does the things she does. The three adjectives that the reader may use to describe Abigail are selfish, a liar, and a leader. Abigail is one of many interesting characters, and perhaps the most interesting one in The Crucible.
The first adjective that describes Abigail is selfish. There are many reason why she is selfish, one of the reasons is that she had an affair with John Procter even when he was married. She did not think of the feelings of his wife and children, nor did she care that she was creating so many problems for so many people. Another reason is when John was in

There are many reasons why Abigail is a lair, one of the reasons is she said she saw the devil. Another reason is she denied seeing Marry Warren making the poppet during court. And the last reason is she told the court that she saw Marry Warrens spirit when they was in court. Even though the spirit wasn’t there she was just saying that. In the play Abigail told Danforth “I have seen my blood runnin’ out! I have been near to murdered every day because I done my duty pointing out the Devi’s people- and tis is my reward? To be mistrusted, denied, questioned.”
The third adjective that describes Abigail is a leader. There are many reasons why Abigail is a leader, the first reason, she was the leader of the group of girls. The second reason is that she lead all the girls to the woods and they were all dancing naked. And the last reason is whatever she said the girls would repeat it back and whatever she does they do the same thing. In the play when Abigail was in court she said see saw Marry Warren spirit and it was coming after her and when she was yelling “stop it Marry” the girls was yelling “ stop it

Abigail Williams, a character from The Crucible, is a misfit archetype. A misfit archetype describes a character who doesn’t fit in with their community and surroundings. These types of characters can often display an attitude of freedom. I chose the misfit archetype for Abigail Williams because she fits into it very well. To begin with, Abigail was found conjugating with Tituba and other girls in the woods. She is also a misfit because she starts accusing fellow citizens of being witches. Arthur Miller wrote a novel called The Crucible, with a character named Abigail Williams, who fits the misfit archetype that can be connected to 21st century, the time period that The Crucible takes place, and characters, both in The Crucible, and in other novels.…

She truly believed that the women she accused of witchcraft were trying to come after her. A sane and mentally healthy person would recognize when it is time to “drop the act” after over a dozen innocent lives have been taken. Abigail was so mentally driven by what she thought was right, she couldn't see the wrong in it. Abigail was so stubborn about what she wanted, which was John. She was manipulated and “abused” by John, she was willing to sacrifice other people’s lives to save herself from everyone and John’s individual reputation.…

She’s also a skillful liar. She is the leader of her group of girlfriends and is willing to do anything to protect herself. The angelic part of her personality is gone after the first act when it is discovered that she accused Goody Procter of witchcraft. Although Abigail seems like an innocent girl in the beginning of The Crucible, her ruthless, persuasive, and wicked personality leads her to her lustful plot to murder making her the representative of the devil she projects on others. She goes out of her way to get the troubles off of her and on to someone else. Abigail seems to bring the evil to the play. She has the willness to make her self look good and put others down. She interacts with witchcraft and believes in it. She lies about everything and tells lies to get the trouble off of her. She steals from the Reverend and runs…

She would call witchcraft on innocent people for example John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail fancied John Proctor and was furious when John ended the affair to go back faithfully to his wife Elizabeth. Abigail accused Elizabeth of witchcraft and as a result of of Abigail’s accusation It caused John’s death. Another major reason i believe she is the villain is when she saw her town falling to pieces she stood there and filled with pride. Abigail enjoyed being able to have the power of putting a label on someone and cloud everyone's judgment. Once one of her followers backed down from…

She is so selfish she yells at people, threatens to beat people up, and wishes death upon them if she doesn’t get her way. In the beginning of the play all the girls should have told everyone what really happened when they were dancing in the forest. If that had happened none of the girls would have started to accuse any one of witchcraft. But since Abigail is so selfish she ruins an entire town by threatening people her friends so her reputation and her name do not get ruined. Abigail tells all of her friends “If anyone spreads the word about us doing witchcraft, I will come to your house and kill you.” I would not want that kind of friend if she threatens to kill me. Also Betty went into a coma so Abigail was trying to wake her up. Abby started threatening Betty that she would beat her up if she didn’t wake up. All of sudden Betty gets up and screams out a window that Abby drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor! She also threatens Marry Warren to not tell anyone that she was in the forest with him or her. I can see why Abigail is threatening everybody because she wants to save her name and her reputation. But everything she does it is in a very selfish…

In the novel of The Crucible, written by Authur Miller Abigail committed the greatest crimes. Abigail destroyed the reputations of many and killed much of her surrounding society. Her power lied in the fact that judges believed her, making all those women who fell victim to her scapegoats. She is the one who triggers off a sense of hate in the play. She tempts John Proctor into sexual activity, and to escape punishment for dancing, she deflects the actions and blames them on someone else, and does not care how many lives she ruins. “ ABIGAIL: give me a soft word, John. A soft word; PROCTOR: No, no, Abigail, that’s done with; ABIGAIL: oh I marvel how such a strong man may let a sticky wife-; PROCTOR: You’ll speak nothing of Elizabeth” (page…

Her appearance was just as deceitful as her actual personality. In the story Abigail is introduced on page 8 as a “strikingly beautiful girl, an orphan, and with an endless capacity for dissembling.” It is ironic how alluring and appealing her appearance was, yet, her personality was evil and twisted. The fact that she has the ability to conceal her real motives and feelings gave her an advantage which she abused in order to achieve her sole purpose. Proctor, a married man whom she had an affair with, is the reason she began the entire witchcraft frenzy. All she wanted was to be with the man she fell in love with, Proctor, and she took the opportunity to do so. Her values were in Proctor, in getting what she wanted, and in power. She began to obsess in her values and motive, which created that fraudulent person in the…

In The Crucible, Abigail Williams has antisocial disorder, also known as sociopathy. This condition is caused by factors including early life experience and learned behavior. This reflects Abigail’s situation because it is known that she witnessed her parents being killed right in front of her when she was a child. Then as an orphan, she was raised by her uncle, Reverend Samuel Parris, who was not an honourable man. When these factors are combined with neglect and separation, like her experience with John Proctor, it causes a person to develop this personality disorder. People with this mental condition show no value for right or wrong, and they ignore the rights of others. The main symptoms of this disorder acquired by Abigail are that she lies persistently, has a lack…

One of the main characters of the play The Crucible, Abigail Williams, is the most spiteful and least complex character throughout the entire play. She is the villain of the play, even more than Parris or Danforth. She is on the lower end of the social hierarchy; the only people below her were slaves like Tituba. Abigail Williams possess wicked character traits that give her a negative perception. She is a jezebel figure who lacks feelings, an immoral character who lacks ethics and a manipulative person who lacks a conscience.…
