Whitney Houston's Holograms And Its Impacts
Recalling all of the recent holograms that I’ve been able to view on various awards shows in the last five years or so and the announcement late 2015 of an anticipated Whitney Houston hologram concert that is in the works for some time this year, the person or their estate should own their likeness or voice. A hologram shouldn’t be any different than copyrighted music. You don’t want any and everybody taking advantage of or misusing a person’s legacy without some type of contract, monetary compensation, and guidelines on how that person’s hologram would be portrayed. Companies that are producing these holograms seem to be quickly claiming stake to deceased artist’s likenesses, but not everyone is excited about seeing their favorite late celebrity. According to FindLaw, the late singer Selena’s fans didn’t like the idea of a touring hologram of the singer “When the Selena estate announced its intention to tour a hologram, there was international outcry from fans who claimed the estate was abusing its rights.” (Findlaw.blog, 2015) But on the other end of the spectrum, a person’s estate has the right to license that person’s likeness and voice. Case in point, Whitney Houston's sister-in-law Pat Houston who will be involved in the 2016 hologram tour with Hologram USA, stated that "It's a great opportunity for her fans to see a reinvention of one the most celebrated female artists in history and to continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come." (qtd. on Eonline.com). I personally am not on board right now with paying to see a virtual ghost. …show more content…

In Janet Mock’s memoir “Redefining Realness” she talks about what it is was like to live in an environment that is was financially unstable and as a transgender women of color in a time where that was not necessarily understandable. At many points in the memoir you could say that is what she defined real, but I would have to use the example on page 116 where Mock said that “Realness means that you are extraordinary in your embodiment of what society deems normative. Which I took as a statement of however people see themselves that is real because they see it in themselves.…

When I saw the first full adult corpse--The Runner--I was still somewhat uncomfortable. It was a flayed and plasticized human body behind glass, with the muscles cut and sticking out. But at the same time, it was amazing to look at, to see all those different muscles and how they look in real life. And as I moved on to the other exhibits--The Baseball Player, The Singer, those amazingly thin cross-sections showing all the organs--I became more comfortable. The exhibits seemed like something we were not "supposed" to look at, but something I could not stop looking at. These corpses were creepy, but the discomfort faded in response to the pure fascination of seeing it.…

Women, namely African American, have played a crucial role in Hip Hop culture: from the beginning with Cindy Campbell the sister of Kool Herc — who demonstrated her entrepreneurship of promoting his block parties; the idea of entrepreneurship is still deeply seeded in Hip Hop today—to Debra Lee, the president and CEO of BET. However, accounts of hip hop often downplay, or completely leave out, the contributions of women to hip hop as artist, entrepreneurs, producers, writers, etc. Women have influenced hip hop as much, if not more, than men; that is to say that all men can from one woman. In that case, why is it that currently in hip hop culture African American women’s image has been reduced to nothing more than the objects of their male counterparts?…
