What Was Chief Chinedu Okoh's Story?
‘Yes, I do.’
‘What was Chief Chinedu Okoh’s position at the time Frank was the CEO?’
‘He was the deputy managing director.’
‘How well do you know these men?’
‘I was involved with both men.’
‘What do you mean by that?’
‘I dated both of them.’ Monica replied tearfully.
‘Please expatiate.’
‘I was, first of all, engaged to Frank Okoh and just as we were planning our wedding ceremony, he was involved in a scandal at the bank, arrested and subsequently imprisoned.’
More lines of tears dropped down her cheeks. The spectators remained attentive as she continued. Victoria couldn’t believe her eyes. She knew the lady. Frank had introduced her as his fiancée at the time and she remembered she had complimented her several times on her beauty. What in the world had happened to her?

Frank had told her earlier Victoria was in the courtroom. She wanted to begin a psychological warfare which was sure to bring down the devil-incarnate. There was no way Chinedu would escape the hands of justice. She mused. That was the promise she had made to herself and toFrank the love of her life.
‘No.’
Victoria was hurt beyond measure. She had never had any reason to suspect Chinedu was cheating on her. Tears welled up in her eyes.
‘How was your romantic relationship with Chinedu broken?’ Bimpe continued.
‘I became pregnant.’ A murmur of disapproval filled the courtroom once more.
‘Order! Order! Order!’ The female registrar shouted.
‘Chinedu did not want the pregnancy,’ Monica continued.
‘He told me to abort it. I staunchly refused yet he promised me a lot of things including marriage…’
‘Marriage?’ Bimpe chipped in deliberately.
‘Yes. He told me if I aborted the pregnancy, he would marry me but I refused.’
‘Why?’
‘My past experience.’ She replied truthfully. ‘I had aborted once and had been warned by my doctor never to try it again.’ Monica

Yet looking closely, we can see how the girl has changed her perspective. Her intentions seem to be completely different than the man. We can assume that the couple have not settled down because of the girls statement about what they do, “That’s all we do, isn’t it- look at things and try new drinks”(116). We can also suggest that they travel quite frequently when the narrator claims, “He did not say anything but looked at the bags against the wall of the station. There were labels on them from all the hotels where they had spent nights”(118). Through the remarks of the girl we can assume that by keeping this baby instead aborting would allow her to settle down with the man. She also began to stand up for herself as she repeatedly tells the man if he can please stop talking.…
