What Is The Moral Of The Movie 12 Years A Slave

Watching the movie 12 years a slave was very difficult for me. We all know of slavery and how terrible it was, however in this movie it shows the brutality of it. Before watching the film, I wasn’t aware of how slavery was. I had imagines and ideas of what I had been taught but nothing like the film portrayed. Slave owners often took their anger out on their slaves. Think about this. If you were having a bad day would you just go beat someone until their fleece was showing? One of the three things the film taught me what how brutal our own human being kind was to other human beings and for free labor and their own benefit. It also taught me that free slaves could be kidnapped and put back into slavery, which is very unfair. Lastly the film taught me how these African American slaves lived their lives as slaves and how awful they had it. In the movie, one slave in particular was given hell. We understand slavery to an extent but we do not actually feel the things that they went through. When you are watching, a movie based on a true story it almost hurts to watch it. Slavery was a cruel act and you are ignorant if you believe it is not. The movie makes you think twice about the life we live now. As a white person, I put myself in their position and couldn’t imagine being treated as property and being beaten for sometimes no reason at all. If I knew nothing of slavery and watched this movie I would be taught almost everything there is to know on the subject. It shows the actual brutality of how slaves were treated, how they were inspected for auction, what they ate, how they worked. It basically covers the whole nine yards. This movie was a very interesting, intense and portrayed slavery for nothing less than what it was; evil.
