CHAPTER I
PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
The Importance and Functions of the Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) Introduction
Nowadays, many computer users around the world encounter a problem regarding Basic Input-Output System (BIOS). It is usually seen when a computer failed to shut down successfully where one can read the phrase “Enter BIOS system” on the options but not everyone knows what is it for, how does it function and is it necessary to be familiar with. That is why we have chosen to conduct a research paper regarding BIOS. It is important to have knowledge or idea about it because of its many uses, importance and functions on a computer system that will be stated on the following chapters of this research paper. It is an exciting and interesting topic to be discussed and to be researched. Not only that, in this research paper, one can learn or have ideas on upgrading BIOS, what are the effects of upgrading it and why is it necessary to be upgraded and updated.

Statement of the Problem/ Objectives
What are the importance and functions of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS)? 1. To know the importance or significance of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) in a computer system. 2. To increase the knowledge of people about Basic Input-Output System (BIOS); to know its history. 3. To enumerate the functions of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS). 4. To lessen the number of people who doesn’t know Basic Input-Output System (BIOS). 5. To contribute new ideas about Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) in the field of computers.

Significance of the Study
The research contributes to knowledge production in general about BIOS. The purpose of this research is to gain a better understanding of the importance, uses and functions of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS). The benefit of the study is for the ordinary student and for the people to have deeper understanding about BIOs problems. * Students, who were in the field of computer. This will help them to have more information about BIOS and how this affects the performance of a computer. * Teachers/Professors. For them to have an additional information about BIOS and what are the things that they need to tackle more to their students in the field of computer. * Specialists/Developer of computers. For them to have an idea on the things that they need to develop more based on its functions and performance. * Ordinary students/people. To correct their misconceptions about BIOS.

Scope and Delimitation
The coverage of this study is all about the definition, importance and functions of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS). It focuses on every student who uses computer on their field of studies and also to those people who use computer in their everyday life and looks for information about BIOS.

This study limits its coverage on the hardware system particularly Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) only and to those people who encounters regarding BIOS.

CHAPTER II
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Relevant Theory
“If it is not broken, don’t fix it” (Perkins, David N, 2007). “Intel says that if the mobo is working properly that bios and drivers shouldn't be updated. Mine is working properly and I know if it isn’t broke don't fix it, but what are the advantages and disadvantages to updating it anyway?” (webhead68, 2007) (Intel,2006 para. 2) stated that update the BIOS on your computer only if the newer BIOS version specifically solves a problem you have. It is not recommend updating your BIOS for computers that do not need it.
