What Is The Difference Between Lewis And Clark Expedition
William Clark was born on August 1, 1770 & Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 177 in Albemarle County in Virginia. During this time Thomas Jefferson was the president of the United States. Lewis and Thomas Jefferson grew up as boyhood neighbors as kids.1 Lewis joined the militia in 1794 which was commanded by Lieutenant Clark, where they later grew a strong bond.1 Several years later Lewis received a letter asking to become the president’s secretary-aide. A secretary- aide is a person who helps another with their daily activities. Lewis had accepted Jefferson’s offer, and from the letter he had assumed that Jefferson was planning an expedition.1 Jefferson’s grand idea was "...the object of your mission is to explore the Missouri River, and such principal streams of is, as, by its course and communication with the waters of the Pacific Ocean, whether the Columbia, Oreon, Colorado or any other river, may offer the most direct and practicable water communication across this continent for the purposes of commerce..." .2 …show more content…
Jefferson wanted Lewis to find out information about the people animals and plants.3 Lewis & Clark were born leaders both experienced in army forces, resourceful, intelligent, and adventurous.1 They started their expedition near St. Louis Missouri in May of 1804.3 Congress allocated 2,500 dollars for their expedition. They experienced different things on their journey and made new discoveries.
