Describe how a character changed in the film.
Change. It is a natural and unpreventable yet terrifying part of life. For teenagers, such as Bianca Piper in the 2015 film The DUFF directed by Ari Sandel, change is overwhelming, confronting and often surprisingly rewarding. Sandel effectively presents Bianca's changes through the use of parallel structure, appearance, facial expression, body language, music, and costume.
Parallel structure is used to show the difference in costume and personal appearance of Bianca in the opening scene and the closing scene. in the opening scene Bianca was wearing boots and masculine jeans. By the closing scene Bianca was wearing high heels and dress.The change …show more content…
We see she is confident as she is making eye contact with Wesley and her head is tilted to emphasise the straight up way she is speaking to Wesley. The music got louder as Wessley glanced at her, his jaws dropped as he looked at her in a nice beautiful black dress. As Bianca and Wesley were talking to each other, we see this through an over the shoulder shot . Madison saw Bianca and Wesley together, she finished her conversation with others and walked towards Bianca in an angry mood. we see this when Madison rolls her eyes about what Bianca say ands she looks to Wesley for approval over her negative reaction. We also see that Madisons eyes look towards the floor when Bianca says negative comments about her that she know that are true.in order to claim dominance over Wesley. We see that Bianca’s facial expression didn't change much, she looked assertive and continues to make eye contact with Madison as she confronts her. This scene was shown through the use of two shot and over the shoulder shot.This is to show how Bianca reacted to Wesley and Madison.Bianca remained to maintain eye contact with Wesley and Madison to tell how she feels towards madison, we see her telling this to her in an assertive way. The purpose of these two shots are to show how Wesley is attracted to Bianca and how they both truly feel towards each other. we see this shown in the homecoming dance. we also see that wesley is more comfortable with Bianca rather than Madison, this is shown through wesley’s facial expression.The director wanted to show how happy Bianca is and how she’s changed into a newer person and is more confident to approach other people compared to in beginning of the movie where she wasn’t comfortable wearing high heel and sexy clothes like the other girls in the school .
