The bitch has some features in relevance to reproduction that are unique for its kind. The female dog is monoestrus and the feature of seasonality appears to be in most breeds almost nonexistent (Gobello,2001). The canine cycle is divided into four phases :a period of 5–20 day proestrus, a period of 5–15 day estrus, next a period of 50-80 day and last a period of anestrus lasting 80–240 days. Each of these phases contain a different leading hormone in dominant role altering the course of the follicle .So in proestrus the rise in estrogen ensures the follicular phase, then in the initial luteal phase there is a rise in progesterone and decline in estrogen, then the rest of the luteal phase, and last the breach between the seizing

The American Staffordshire Terrier (also known as Pit Bull) is believed to be a man-eating beast. But is this breed all it's made out to be? The Pit Bull started in the Unites States; it has been developed since the early 1800's as a result of crosses between the bulldogs of that time and game terriers. Although the early ancestors of this breed came from England, the development of the American Staffordshire Terrier is the story of a truly American breed. This type of dog was instrumental in the success of farmers and settlers who developed this country. They were used for general farm work, hunting wild pigs, bears, and other large game, guarding the homestead, and general companionship. A number of the early ancestors were also developed for…

Here’s a little history on the American Pit Bull Terrior, dating back to late seventeen hundreds, the Pit Bull Terriors were used for bull baiting, hunting, and as family companions. When used as baiting dogs they were trained to latch on to the heads of bulls, bears, and other large animals. This was banned in the early eighteen hundreds and ever since then the notorious dog fighting had begun. Now, dog fighting has been banned and is a felony offense in all fifty states. Many dog breeds have been used for hunting and fighting, and are still used as family dogs today. For example, retrievers, pointers, spaniels, bulldogs and many more. These breeds were created…

Ember was a rescue who belonged to the Daniels family. One evening while Tre, the son of Mrs. Daniels, was taking a bath he had a seizer and started to drown. Ember gained the attention of Mrs. Daniels and led her to the bathroom, therefore saving the 10 year old boy’s life. When hearing this story you probably pictured a family dog, a Labrador or Cocker Spaniel but Ember was a Pit bull, this is just one example of how Pit bulls are very loyal and good pets. Pit bulls behavior is not caused by genes, but rather how they are treated. It’s been proven Pit bulls are potentially the same as any other breed, however, when you adopt a bigger, stockier breed that strength is sometimes abused.…

It is better to understand the breed and where they come from before making assumptions about the type of animal they are. The Europeans wanted a stout muscular breed that had feistiness to it that they could use for baiting or rat fights (pitbull411.com). Yes, it is true that the breed started off as a fighting dog that was used to bait bulls that were uncontrollable by their owners. But when Europeans migrated to the United States they brought their dogs with them and the breed took on a new job. Although in present times the breed has been adopted by gangs for the use of fighting other dogs for monies and the protection of their owners, the breed has been shown to have different characteristics depending on how they are initially trained. The dogs that were trained to fight but did not make the cut were often turned loose in the streets to fend for themselves. Being scared and hungry they instinctively became aggressive to anyone that had approached them because of the abuse they endured as a pup. Other Pit Bulls that were brought up in loving homes showed characteristics of a friendly playful animal that showed no aggression to the owners or even strangers. Before judgment is passed about the Pit Bull breed, how they are trained and who they are owned by should be taken into consideration. Laws should not be created banning the breed but to ensure that they are properly owned and trained ensuring safety for the general public and reducing the possibility that this breed of animal becomes extinct.…

Pit bulls and terrier breeds were created in early 19th century, for the popular spectator sports of bull- and bear-baiting. In 1898 the UKC, Britain's equivalent of the AKC, named these bull dogs the American Pit Bull Terrier. The AKC decided to recognize the breed in the early 1930s--but under a new name. Intending to separate it from its pit-fighting past, the AKC named it the American Staffordshire terrier, also known as a pit bull. These dogs have been used for protection not only in homes but in war, with the police and even with celebrities. Unfortunately, this same breed of dog now has a bad reputation, being called a vicious breed of dog and bully’s. I would have to disagree though, I believe that yes, there are some very mean pit bulls out there but there are also very nice and even famous ones. Not all pit bulls can be bad they aren’t born that way, they are raised that way. Saying a pit bull is born aggressive is kind of like saying a baby is born to hate.…

Pit bulls are the most misunderstood dog breeds in the world. When people hear the word pit bull they automatically think of dogs fighting and attacking. When people say "pit bull" they're usually referring to a range of breeds and, often, a mixed-breed dog. (Lawrence, C Louisville Magazine Feb 2007) People think they are a very dangerous breed of dog. Because of this, some areas do not allow pit bulls and breeds like them. Pit bulls are the leading culprit of dog bites in America, but on the other hand, they are the gentlest dogs people will ever meet. The National Canine Temperament Testing Association tested 122 breeds of dog and Pit bulls placed the 4th highest with a 95% passing rate. (http://atts.org Feb 2012) With this fact it can only be how the dog is raised. People who own Pit bulls should be obligated to train their dog well. With any dog you need to train it so the owner has the upper hand. Owners need to know that they have to be dominant and for their dog to be obedient towards their orders. The dog comes second to themselves. Pit bulls are one of the most gentle of the breeds. Pit bulls are notable therapy dogs who visit patients that are recovering from emotional trauma. Pit bulls are also used for their service in sniffing out drugs on the borders due to their sense of smell being stronger than any other breed. These dogs are great family dogs and were babysitters in the 19th and the early 20th centuries.…
