Pitra Dosh is probably the most widely misinterpreted concept of Vedic Jyotish as many of the present day astrologers describe it as the curse of ancestors which is troubling the native and accordingly they suggest remedies to pacify and please the ancestors so that such ancestors may take back their curse. For this reason, such astrologers recommend to their clients that they should get Pitra Dosh Pooja performed at places like Haridwar, Badrinath Dham, Gaya Ji or Trayambkeshwar temple in order to rectify Pitra Dosh present in their horoscopes. According to Vedic Jyotish, if Mercury or 9th house of a horoscope or kundali is afflicted by one or more malefic planets, Pitra Dosh is said to be formed in the horoscope and depending upon the planet that causes malefic influence on Mercury or 9th house of the horoscope, Pitra Dosh can be of 9 types as there are 9 planets among navagraha according to Vedic Jyotish and each planet can form one type of Pitra Dosh in horoscope when it is malefic. Mercury Pitra Dosh is the type of Pitra Dosh which is formed in a horoscope or kundali when Mercury is working malefic in the horoscope or kundali and it afflicts Sun or 9th house of the horoscope. Since this type of Pitra Dosh is formed by malefic Mercury in the horoscope or kundali, hence it is called Mercury Pitra Dosh in general. Mercury Pitra Dosh nivaran Pooja is performed in order to rectify this type of Mercury Pitra Dosh in a horoscope or kundali.
