As the director and dramaturge for a fully mounted production of, Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron for a festival with a focus on Australian society I must select a relevant scene for an audience to promote the entire play. Ruby Moon was written in 2003 by Matt Cameron (1969), a Melbourne playwright who was heavily “influenced by headlines in the newspaper” regarding missing children which sparked many of his plot lines. His plays, in particular Ruby Moon, comment on the notion of a decimated community where there is no longer any communication between neighbours and how the suburbs are now deemed as unsafe and frightening. This is the paradox of Flaming Tree Grove, the street where Ruby Moon sets off to visit her grandmothers and is never seen again.…

Eros Urides paints a very detailed picture of endless imagination in his short science fiction epic, “The Planet Mars and its Inhabitants,” written in the 1920’s. Urides does this by creating a complex yet believable story line of how life on Mars could be in comparison to our planet Earth. Outlining key details, which we will cover in this essay, Urides explains to us that life on Mars is not only much more advanced in the structure of how they live their lives, but they also bare a strong connection to the Spiritual figure, God. Part of this connection greatly separates the Martians educational system from Earths educational system. This connection, as pointed out by Urides, is the greatest key Mars has unlocked and in turn it has given endless possibilities to the Martian dwellers, whom, if truly existed, would be known to us as the greatest civilization in our galaxy.…

“The Story of Sinuhe” is about an Egyptian man named Sinuhe, who is the queen’s secretary. In ancient times, castration was required in order for men to enter the royal palace and to serve the royalty. At the end of the story, the story revealed that Sinuhe was not castrated because he has children. This showed that the king really trusted Sinuhe because all servants needed to be castrated except him. Throughout the story, the author stressed the idea that loyalty is essential because people were expected to be loyal to their own country and want to stay there until their death. Thus, nationalism plays a huge role in Egypt. After facing many hardships, Sinuhe was forced to leave his home country, Egypt. Therefore, he lived a new life at another country for many years as an immigrant. However, he returned to Egypt after many years and this shows his loyalty to his home country. “The Story of Sinuhe” emphasized the theme national propaganda and revealed to the audience the lifestyles of modern immigrants.…

My mandala’s symbols have been strategically placed so that each ties in with the others. I placed my symbol of Brahman on the top, in the center, because he is every single thing, other gods, souls, plants everything in the universe. I placed my multiple gods symbol next to the Brahman symbol because all gods are part of Brahman. I placed my Dharma symbol to the left, underneath the Brahman symbol. I placed it there because dharma is the path of multiple lives, and Brahman is the creator of this cycle. Next to the dharma, I placed the Samsara symbol. Samsara is the cycle, and your supposed to escape it by following your dharma. Karma is next to Samsara because what you do affects your next life, and if you don’t do the right thing,…

All life on this planet is linked to the geology of Earth, and vice versa – we (all organisms) are supposed to be living in a symbiotic relationship with our world. When Earth was developing deep within its curst began the first traces of raw materials and minerals that would fuel life for many years to come. We adapt and change to our ever evolving planet mostly due to changes in our environment and geology. There are many properties of life on Earth – order, reproduction, growth and adaptations; all of which depend on the available resources Earth has to give. “96% of every organism is composed of the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen” (The Origin and Evolution of Life on Earth). We all depending on one another to survive – plants on the sun, herbivories on the plants, carnivores on the herbivories – we are all part of the grand plan.…

The author addresses this article from one main perspective. Davison and Lytle use a social lens to analyze and describe Riis' life. This is important because if helped to highlight the effects of Riis' journalism and photography as well as giving insight to the responses of the people to what he had to say. We see this when the author wrote, "The quality of living in cities changed, too… wealthy fled along newly constructed trolley and rail lines to the quiet of developing suburbs. Enterprising realtors either subdivided or replaced the mansions of the rich with tenements, in which maximum number people could be packed into a minimum of space" (page 204).
