What I Learned In English Class
As I began this course it was the one I was dreading the most. For as long as I remember I have been told my writing is terrible. As I began this course I realized it was not that I was bad at writing, it was the fact that I did not know correct mechanics or grammar and did not take it serious enough. I have learned so many new techniques and have improved as a writer. Although I will not say I love writing, I do not hate it. Within this class my best effort was for the personal narrative. I say this because it was about my best friend. This meant that not only would the professor be reading it, but I would be sending it to one of the most important people in my life, my best friend. I put more effort into that assignment because it mattered more to me and because it took a lot more effort to write an essay that defines me because I am the type of person who keeps her feelings to herself, instead of expressing them. I really had to dig deep to find my topic and write about it. The assignment I did not succeed in was probably the research paper. I understand that we picked our topic for this one as well, but I loathe research papers. I hope I did well, but I do not know yet. I did not put as much effort as I could have because life came in and distracted me. As problems began to flood in from back home my focus began to stray. I did have fun researching the topic, but I did not put in the time to make it …show more content…
This allows me to believe I deserve an A, because I am always in class, I participate more often than most of our class, I worked hard on my papers, and I made my best effort to fulfill the course requirements. This course has been a blast. I have enjoyed learning the writing techniques and bettering my writing. Thank you, Professor Petrillo for making sure each student understood all the techniques and for giving us the tools to turn in outstanding

At the beginning of the course we wrote a personal profile, where we introduced ourselves to our classmates and instructor, in it we included some things like the place where we were raised, important influences in our lives, and our dream job. As well, we introduced a topic that we would be interested in structuring and writing an argumentative paper about, I chose the Dakota access pipeline. It was a controversial topic throughout the world and it drew my interest to intellectually challenge the opposing side, along with several other popular debate topics. Unfortunately, I procrastinated throughout the entire course, because writing has never been my strongest suite. I did that because I over thought every single assignment because I was never certain if I was on the right track. Afterwards, we did a “Says Does Analysis” assignment, we had the opportunity to choose an article from the New York Times editorial. We had to determine what the author was trying to do and say, when writing his or her article. Doing this assignment, helped me evaluate my writing more in-depth, and expand upon what I was discussing.…

The Tell Tale Heart is a short story written in 1843 by Edgar Allen Poe. This story starts with the narrator telling us how he is not mad, merely nervous, but not crazy. In this story he explains that he loves and takes care of this old man. He has nothing against this old man, in fact he cares for him, but he hates the old man’s “vulture-eye”. The narrator hates the eye and decides to kill the old man to be free of it. He devises a plan to be free of the eye, the narrator goes to the old man's room every night at 12am, for seven days. On the eighth night, he went into the bedroom, then quickly drags the old man, off the bed, and then pulls the bed on top of the man. The narrator then waits till he hears the old man’s heart stop. Once this happens the narrator takes his body, chops it up, and hides it underneath the floorboards in the old man’s room.…

The factors that contributed my poor academic performance include but are not limited to: procrastination, disorganization, and a lack of prioritization. Often, throughout the semester, I would put off major assignments until I no longer had any time left to do anything of quality. Another contributor to my performance was my lack of organization. Instead of filing my papers and assignments away neatly, they were left in no particular order or place. The last of my errors involved my lack of prioritization. Many times I chose have fun over completing important assignments. Other times, I chose to go to bed late and in turn over sleep. Recognizing these contributors will help prevent any reoccurrences of my recent performance.…

I have learned more in the five weeks of this dual enrollment class than I have in my previous years of both my middle school years and my freshman/sophomore year. My previous years have mostly been just trying to fine tune my acquired skills from elementary and middle school. Although, it has worked I still think that those courses did not allow me to flourish into the experienced writer than I am capable of becoming. The individual and collaborative techniques that professor Belmont has taught us have greatly heightened my skills in…

I have attended Argosy University Online since March 21, 2013 to Present. I was a Fulltime student. I'm currently taking my last course with them which is ENG 102. I enjoy taking my classes online. I feel as it is just like sitting in the classroom. When I logon to my class portal everything is there. Currently at Argosy the terms are 5 weeks long. So when I log on I have 5 modules that are one week a piece and have 3 assignments on each module. I participate in a discussion that the instructor puts out and I have to respond to the discussion post and also having to reply to two classmates on their discussion post every week. When assignments are due requiring the use of a text book I navigate under the module that the assignment is due and click on the require text that pertains to the assignment and the text is there from the book. When a writing assignment is due, I normally type the paper in Microsoft word and attach the document into the drop box on Argosy University's student portal and click the drop down box and click which assignment I’m submitting and submit it for grading. If I’m not too much in a hurry I will wait about ten minutes to see what my Turnitin score is. If I have any questions for the professor at any time I go to the left hand side where the modules are and click “Questions for the Professor” and ask my question. If it’s something personal in nature I will send the professor an email.…

Writing isn’t something that was ever stressed in my high school and since I am a computer science major, didn’t think that I would really be needing to write very often. But, this class has completely changed my perspective on writing, along with how I write. I have learned how to better plan my papers, create strong arguments, and how to create a good flow in the final product.…

Essay A, was a bit challenging for myself because I had to relate to the film to my personal experience. With the critiques I received from my first draft, it made me realize that my writing wasn’t as weak as I thought and that all I needed was practice. With your help and critique, I was able to edit my paper and summit my final draft confidently. When I received my grade with your feedback, I must say I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting to receive a A- for the paper; making me realize I do set myself short and that all I really do need is practice and I would be fine, just as you assured each and every student at the beginning of the course.…

I think that I challenged myself to receive good grades, and that I have done so this semester. I am eager to find out new or different things that I have some knowledge about, but I was amazed at the things I thought were right with counseling issues that I was completely wrong about. I am sure that I still have a long way to go, and many new things to learn. I feel that I was entirely invested in this class and all the assignments that were given to me. I wasn’t late on any assignments and many times had the assignment finished before it was due. I read each chapter carefully and was interested in each new thing that I found. I always want to do my very best in each class that I take. I returned back to college when I was 40 years old. This was something that I had dreamed of for many years, but was afraid to try it. I thought that I wasn’t smart enough to go back to school. I am glad that I made this decision even if it was many years after I should have done it.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…
