Texting while driving has become such a massive issue that states have created legal actions to prevent the distraction. In many states, the texting and driving epidemic/action is banned. Washington state was the first state to pass a texting ban in 2007 (“Distracted driving laws”). That was just the beginning as many more states soon followed. Currently 46 states have banned texting for all drivers (“Distracted driving laws”). For some states it might not be a primary offense, but a secondary offense. For example, even though Florida has only a limited ban on texting and driving, tickets are still possible. This means that police officers can only ticket drivers for texting and driving if they have been stopped for another violation thereby resulting in two tickets (“It’s the Law” 1). Texting and driving is a serious matter due to the fact that states have banned the action. If the states feel strong enough to ban the action, all drivers should refrain from participating in the …show more content…
A selected number of people might say that texting while driving is an action that is beneficial for parents that have a teenager driving. When teenagers drive, parents worry. Knowing that these individuals can, if necessary, call home while driving or can be contacted while in transit – even if this capability is rarely exercised – contributes to peace of mind for all concerned family members (Lissy, Cohen, Park and Graham 44). However, 13% of drivers age 18-20 involved in a car wrecks admitted to texting on their mobile devices at the time of the crash (Carroll). The statistic proves that the text is not worth the risk especially when the text sent had good intentions. Furthermore, cellular devices may also increase alertness on what might otherwise become a long, monotonous drive (Lissy, Cohen, Park, and Graham 43). However, this is fictitious information. According to, Texting while driving doubles reaction time and makes drivers more likely to miss a flashing light (“Study Finds”). Conclusively, people may argue for texting and driving. However statistics prove that there is no good in the action.
In a nutshell, texting while driving has too many negative effects to ever out-weigh the positive effects. In a matter of seconds, people could be dead due to a few simply words. Even though the topic is controversial, texting while driving is hazardous and should be discontinued, because

Many consider that texting while driving can be very dangerous. They say that roads aren’t safe when driver’s text and drive. But in reality there wouldn’t be a difference in roads if the ban of texting while driving was enacted. In my opinion I don’t think texting while driving should be banned. I disagree with the whole concept of it. Banning texting while driving would be pointless, hard to enforce, and it isn’t the cause of increase in car accidents.…

It’s a shocking realization that so many lives are taken every year over something that could have been simply avoided, yet the number of accidents still continue to rise.
