Were the Barbarians a Negative or Posit
Were the Barbarians a Negative or Positive Factor in Ancient and Medieval History?
History is written by the people who win the battles, and discovery new things. And what we read everyday portrays the barbarians to be these mean people who steal your things, take over your villages and burn the things of the people. But we never hear anything from the barbarians themselves so we never get their side of the story on anything. I believe that the barbarians were good people who were misunderstood and did what they had to do to survive.
The barbarians were misunderstood. Going off what we know about them they were probably the smartest people of their time. They lived in the steppe nomads of Inner Asia or Central Eurasia. They could adapt to any kind of life style and live off anything. They took bits and pieces of different cultures and combined them to make a healthy life style. Also in the area that they lived in had extreme weather conditions. It will either be extremely cold or extremely hot. The fact that they can live in those extreme conditions shows how much they can live off the land.
In the article we read over barbarians we hear how there mean to everyone but has anyone ever thought that maybe it wasn’t all their fault. For all we know everything that they did maybe was in self-defense or the people were threatening them. In the article we read it said that the barbarians lived a simple way of life, but if they lived in a simple way why would they go around attacking random people? There had to be some reason behind their behavior which is why I think that they weren’t all to blame. I think the only reason we hear all about them and not the noble is because the nobles don’t want to take full responsibility for their actions, so they’re putting everything on the barbarians who were just defending themselves.
The barbarians were good people who were misunderstood did what they had to do to survive. They were the smartest people of there time but aren’t

Much of the Roman frontier followed the natural boundaries of the Rhine and Danube rivers across Europe. On the other side of these rivers were territories the Romans never brought under their control and tribal peoples such as the Goths, Franks, Vandals, and Huns. By the middle of the fourth century CE, many Roman governors had allowed these so-called “barbarians” to settle on the Roman side of the rivers, and Roman generals had even recruited many of the men as soldiers in their armies. However, the barbarians never assimilated fully into Roman culture. By the end of the century they started to wage a series of ferocious campaigns into Roman territory, eventually destroying the city of Rome itself.…

Native people are smart because they perfected the art of agriculture, also they are non-violent society. Compare to Columbus’s group, they wanted gold and source of labor, so they refused to return same kind of generosity back to the Arawak Indians so they caused genocide to help themselves to reach their “goals”, and we can describe these people heartless and hypocritical. Up to this point native people are clearly the more advanced society as a whole compare to Columbus and his sailors.…

By reading what historians and politicians have to say it seems to me that their definition of a ‘barbarian’ is an evil, filthy, and lazy creature. According to an unknown historian barbarians are an evil spirit possessed by the devil who do horrible acts of crime, and who also have lust and sin. This writer is also the historian that mentions about their dislike of personal hygiene, and who says, “They grease their blonde hair with butter and care not that it smells rancid.” To another historian who goes by the name of Tacitus, he believes that the barbarian people are nothing but lazy, fat, and greedy young men who leave all of the work and labor “to the women, the old men, and all the weakest members of the family.” From what these historians have written or given opinions about I see no reason to call the nomadic people barbarians, although they did have a personal hygiene problem that was their way of adapting to their environment.…

The mongol empire was tremendous at making a huge impact on the world. I think that what the mongols left behind has a positive impact on the world today for a different amount of reasons. The mongolians have left a range of technology around for an example the pony express or the idea of chemical warfare all of these things are a positive to us now because we have advanced from that and increased our protection and that's why I think the impact that genghis kahn left behind is positive to our world and history.…

    The Art of Ancient Greece

The ancient Greeks are known as a self aware people. No other culture in western civilization history was quite as introspective as the Greeks. They prided themselves as the most civilized society in the world. In fact the term “barbarian” basically meant non Greek. The development of Greek civilization rises from the ashes of the ancient Mycenaean and Minion cultures. From After the decline and eventual fall of the Mycenaean culture in 1100 BCE, the Aegean Islands would experience a “dark age” period for about 200 – 300 years. By 800 BCE Greece would begin to show growth and stability in their government, economy and culture. This period is referred to as the Homeric Age. The writer Homer would write the stories of prehistoric Greek history (If you have not had to read The Iliad or The Odyssey in your academic career thus far, just wait, it is coming.) It is the Greek culture that would be the basis for western cultures for art, architecture, music, theater, philosophy, literature and politics.…

"My People the Sioux" is a good literary work written in 1928. This book leaves an everlasting impression with some because it definitely intensifies the sympathy for the Indians. Luther Standing Bear, also known as Plenty Kill, portrays the dramatic and traumatic changes about the Sioux throughout their traditional way of life. As a young boy growing up, he experienced many of these hardships first hand between his people and the whites. This autobiography is quite valuable as it helps allow us to envision what really happened in the battling times of the Indians. Luther stated this quote, which to me, is unforgettable and very well said. It reads:…
