Was Lady Macbeth Responsible For Duncan's Death?
Who is responsible for Duncan’s death? When answering this question, you must first know what it actually means to be responsible. Being responsible is having primary cause of or being able to be blamed for a particular deed. Inside the play of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, there were multiple people who played a part in the death of King Duncan. Although this is true, I feel that Lady Macbeth was most responsible. Lady Macbeth played the largest role in the death of Duncan because she was manipulative, depriving, and deceitful.
Out of the many bad qualities Lady Macbeth obtained, I believe she was more manipulative than any other. She displayed her manipulative ways by showing no sorrow concerning her plans to take down King Duncan. Lady Macbeth

In order for her to be made queen, Macbeth would have to first become king. She provoked her husband to kill King Duncan by depriving him of his manhood. Lady Macbeth referred to him as a coward, as well as questioning him as a man. “When you durst do it, then you were a man; / And to be more than what you were, you would/ Be so much more than the man.” (49-51). Lady Macbeth was the brains behind the entire plan for ending King Duncan’s life. She had even planned how her and her husband would frame the guards for the deed. Her plan was nearly flawless, and she had gotten it down to science. The brilliant, yet conniving plan indicated just how deceitful Lady Macbeth was. “When Duncan is asleep/ Whereto the rather shall his day’s hard journey/ Soundly invite him- his two chamberlains/ Will I with wine and wassail so convince/ That memory, the wader of the brain…” (61-72). Due to the demonstration of Lady Macbeth’s manipulative, depriving, and deceitful traits it is obvious that she was the person to blame. If Lady Macbeth had not provoked Macbeth he would not have killed Duncan. Some may say Macbeth is his own person and he did not have to listen to the things Lady Macbeth said. It was obvious that her opinion meant a lot to him, and he did not the idea of her emasculating him. Which is why I feel Lady Macbeth played the biggest role in the death of

Lady Macbeth is more responsible for King Duncan’s murder because she had higher ambitions than Macbeth. She forced evilness upon herself and her high ambitions pushed her to the point of no regret for murdering the king. Lady Macbeth says, “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe topful Of direst cruelty”(1.5.30-32). This is a clear example of how her ambitions have driven her to the point of evil acts to commit this crime. The act of calling for the evil spirits in order to follow through with a murder is a good reason why King Duncan was murdered. Lady Macbeth also had not only forced herself to murder the king but to force her husband to follow through with the plan of the murder…

In the first two acts of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth shows herself to be a formidable woman with aspirations and a plan. She is clear about her desire to become Queen of Scotland and by way of her internal conversation, she plans her manipulation. By knowingly manipulating Macbeth and applying consistent pressure, Lady Macbeth executes her plan. Lady Macbeth is completely at fault for the death and killing of Duncan. First, she poisons Macbeth with evil thoughts of killing Duncan. She threatens his manhood by saying he isn't savage enough to follow through with the act of killing Duncan, which is a big deal especially back then. Second, Macbeth is loyal to the king and the king is loyal to him. Whenever this happens Lady Macbeth would have to convince him otherwise. Also she asks god to”Unsex me here, fill me, from crown to toe, top-ful Of direst cruelty!” meaning make her be able to kill Duncan with all her strength and no hesitation. Lady Macbeth also asks “Make thick my blood”, and “come to my womans breasts, And take my milk for gall” this is basically her asking the gods to…

In conclusion Lady Macbeth is mentally unstable. She longs for power and to become queen. But in the end she cannot handle pressure of murder and guilt on her shoulders. This is why she killed herself. The irony of it is if she didn’t guilt Macbeth into killing Duncan for not taking his chance and being a coward, she wouldn’t have felt guilty about anything at all. Because Duncan would still be alive and none of this would have ever happened. And maybe Lady Macbeth would end up sane in the end if it wasn’t for what she had…

The king would be staying at the Macbeth’s castle, Inverness for a party. At first Macbeth was against the plan but Lady Macbeth was not backing down and talked him into it. “Macbeth talks himself into a kind of thoughtful stupor as he tries to work out the situation for himself. In the following scene, Lady Macbeth will emerge and drive the hesitant Macbeth to act; she is the will propelling his achievements. Once Lady Macbeth hears of the witches’ prophecy, Duncan’s life is doomed.”( Shakespeare A 1, 1–4) Her plan was well thought out and she could not wait. He patience overpowered her excitement though as she waited for him to fall fast asleep. Soon after he was asleep she had drugged the guards and Shoved Macbeth in towards the kings resting area. Is Lady Macbeth To Blame

Although his decision was greatly influenced by Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would have chosen not to kill Duncan had he been more humane; it also cannot be Lady Macbeth’s fault because he was the one who actually committed the murder. Before he had encountered the witches, Macbeth had a hidden desire to become king, and he had just not realized it. After murdering Duncan, Macbeth tried to reassure himself that he did the right thing by thinking that the witches foresaw him becoming king, and that Duncan would have died either way; based upon that, Macbeth thought that he might as well speed up the process of him becoming king. If he was a good-hearted, kind person who truly was forced to murder his own king, then Macbeth would have tried to make up for his crime somehow, or at least try to change his character and become a good person. However, the fact that he believed that his actions were justified shows that Macbeth was the most responsible for his…

She had single handedly changed Macbeth’s mind when he had decided he was going to let fate take its course and solely let everything play out however it was going to. He was not entirely desperate to become king and was content with being the Thane of Glamis and the Thane of Cawdor, therefore he was not exactly intent on murdering the king to claim the throne for his own. Though, almost too easily, Lady Macbeth had convinced him that to become king, he had to murder the king and frame someone else-- it was their only course of action. Of course, she was more power hungry than the once humble Macbeth had been, so she had done the framing and most of the schmoozing. In fact, the only thing that even stopped her from murdering the king in the first place was that he looked similar to her father while he had…

Within the play of Macbeth, Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth as ambitious and vicious when she is first introduced in Act 1 Scene 5. Lady Macbeth is the one of the main reasons the play played out like it did. Although, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth treat each other as friends, they both have an equal say in what happens, but Lady Macbeth seems to contribute more opinion than Macbeth does. When her husband writes to Lady Macbeth about the witches, she was excited, she wanted to be queen and she did not care what had to happen for her to get there. Even if she had to force her husband to do it for her. Even though Lady Macbeth is a huge influence in the murder of Duncan and the downfall of Macbeth, there are some other factors involved. For one, the witches prophecies created the thought of Macbeth being the King…

Even though others think Macbeth caused of the tragedy of Macbeth, I still think Lady Macbeth holds primary responsibility for the tragedy of Macbeth. She holds primary responsibility because she’s one of the people that caused Macbeth to be so ambitious and confident. After Macbeth killed Duncan, he felt guilty. However after his guilt went away, he had no problem setting up the murders of Banquo and Macduff’s wife and family. Lady Macbeth giving Macbeth that push to murder Duncan is why Macbeth felt no remorse when murdering the other…
