Essay Who Is To Blame In Macbeth
In Act I of The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, King Duncan gets murdered. The characters in this play are trying to figure out who is to blame for his murder. There are a couple characters that could be blamed, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth, and the Witches. I feel that the witches are to blame. The Witches have been tinkering with Macbeth’s fate. They have been telling him that he shall be king. The third witch states “All hail, Macbeth, that shall be king hereafter!” (Line 50, page 327). Macbeth does not understand how he could become king. The Witches also speak to Lady Macbeth about Macbeth becoming king. They both know that they will have to execute the king and sons for Macbeth to become king. Lady Macbeth begins to think out a plan for the king’s execution.

The sons are afraid that they will get the blame for the murder of their father so Malcom flees to England and Donalbain flees to Ireland. The fact that they flee makes it more suspicious that they are guilty. The only people that know about what the Witches said are Macbeth, Banquo and Lady Macbeth, therefore no one else suspects them to be guilty. None of these murders would have happened if the witches wouldn’t have started messing around the fate of others. Yes, Lady Macbeth is the one who talked Macbeth into this. Yes, Macbeth id the one who actually does the murdering. Yes, the brothers did flee which makes them look guilty, but none of these actions would have happened if the witches would have kept to themselves.

If the witches had not told Macbeth and Lady Macbeth of his possible kingsmanship then Macbeth and Lady Macbeth would not have gone crazy trying to make that rumor true.
