I believe every marine should read this book. This book really describes what true honor, courage, and commitment is about, there is a lot to learn from this book, especially for young junior Marines. I agree with all the points that the author gave in his writing and think that this book should stay on the commanders reading list. I will be writing my book report on a short story called " A Message To Garcia" . Elbert Green Hubbard was an American writer, Artist, Publisher, and Philosipher . While raised in Huddson, Illinois, he met early success as a salesman with the Larkin Soap Company. Among his many publications were the nine volumn work , The Journeys to the Homes of the Great and A Message To Garcia. A Message To Garcia is a small inspirational essay writen in 1899. It tells the story about the initiative of a soldier, a class of 1881 West Point graduate. This essay exhorts the read to use this attitude in his or her own career and in life as an avenue to success with the three simple words Honor , Courage, and Commitment. It starts by telling us about the growing conflictes between the United States and the Spanish, who at the time ruled Cuba. President at the time William Mckinley, saw great value in establishing contact with the Cuban rebels who he thought would make an valuable ally in case of war with Spain. President Mckinley asked Colonel Authur L. Wagner to suggest a dependable officer to make contact with Calixto Garcia, one of the leaders of the rebels. Colonel Wagner suggested a man by the name of Andrew Rowan, a Captain at the time. He was assigned and accomplished a daunting mission, giving a message to

The ethos used in this short film is very strong. One of the White Helmets mentioned in his interview that it was in Talmud that whoever destroys a soul, it is considered as if he destroyed an entire world. On the contrast, whoever saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world. Thus, the white helmets become volunteers to save people in danger from their previous professions including pharmacists, teachers and so on. They are the hope of Syria. They are humanitarians and defenders. It is sad that at least one hundred and thirty White Helmets have lost their lives while saving someone else’s life. There are also attacks targeted on the White Helmets headquarters. However, the White Helmets are still fighting to save lives. I…

THE BOOK IS SPLIT IN TWO HALVES. THE FIRST PART IS ESSENTIALLY THE BACKGROUND STORY OF GARCIA AND HIS TRAVELS. I BELIEVED THIS PART TO BE LEAST EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF THE AUTHOR’S OPINION OR EMOTION INVOLVED.THE SECOND HALF IS THE AUTHOR'S DEFINITION OF THE TRUE HARD WORKING MAN, AN INDIVIDUAL TRULY WORTH HIS SALT. IT FULLY ENCOMPASSES THE MAIN POINT OF THE STORY…

Introduction: A Message to Garcia is an inspirational essay written by Elbert Hubbard. It was originally published as a filler without a title in the March, 1899 issue of the Philistine magazine which he edited, but was quickly reprinted as a pamphlet and what some see as a handbook. It was very popular, selling over 40 million copies, and being translated into over 30 languages.…

The part I found most interesting was when they were trying to find and decide who would be fit enough to carry the message to Garcia. There is not really much more research you can do on the subject of doing what you are asked to do. So the book did not make me want to research into the subject more. I would recommend this book to the Marines who have a habit of not doing what they are asked to do. Maybe this would open their eyes and get them to do what they are asked. This book would affect everyone’s life, I think. Teaches you the lesson of doing what you’re asked to do. To gain trust, respect and responsibility from others so they know that they can count on you to get the job done. So yes, this book affects my life. If you do your job, no questions ask unless need be, you won’t lose trust. You will gain the respect from your employer and fellow employees and then they can trust that you will get the job done, whether they are there or they are…

Do you think you were born the same person you are today? Clearly, you’re a lot bigger, and can say more than “Ooh” and “Ahh.” However, there are many people in your life that have shaped you to be the individual you have become and will continue to become. Some consider that person a mentor. A mentor can be any experienced person that has made a lasting impression on you and has influenced change. In The Warrior's Heart, Eric Greitens had many of these people guiding him along the way. For example, Eric’s boxing coach was one of his mentors in the book. Earl taught him lessons like strength and discipline which helped him when he became a Navy SEAL. I've had a few Earls in my life.…

In order for them to develop from the initial state to fit the modern class of development, the instrumental figures acted as a stronghold of direction towards the courses of action that resulted to the changes in the city and the Cuban countries. Personalities are among the most essential figures that resulted to the development of the Cuban country. In this case, personalities refer to the people who took a major part in the development of Havana and many other parts of the Cuban country. In order for any development process to take place, there must be individuals who are responsible for spearheading the problem and removing all the possible obstacles. Antonio Maceo is one of the most committed personalities who contributed greatly to the development in Cuba. In order for development to take a real perspective in Cuba, it was essential that the Cubans had to gain independence from their colonial masters such as the Spanish. Due to this, the Cubans formed a revolutionary army that led the country to independence. Antonio Maceo is one of the individuals who took part in the war against the Spanish. After many years of fighting in the Cuban army, Mace showed great Valor and leadership skills among other members of the Army. For this reason, Maceo was promoted to the rank of a general. With his courage and leadership skills, he led the Cuban army to the defeat of the Spanish…

The thesis in Elbert Hubard’s book, A Message to Garcia is the first sentence of the book. “In all this Cuban business there one man stands out on the horizon of my memory like Mars at perihelion.” (p. 17) Hubard published his article originally on page ten of one of his magazines. He was a publisher from the late 1800s until his death in 1915. He is best known for publishing two magazines, The Philistine and The Fra. Also happening at this time, Spain was fighting rebel forces in Cuba and American interest was not toward Spain. Hubard appealed to the headlines, audience, and politics of the day. His sources were local newspapers of the day and he made a point to contact those who had first person experiences with his stories.…

When reading this book, I truley learned the history and truth behind the United States Marine Corps. As a whole, the Marine Corps had a very long journey in the beginning. We have overcame so many obstacles and struggles along the way, and it has only made us stronger as a whole "team". As we began to learn to work together as a team, we started to prove ourselves. General Krulak shared secret behind-the-scenes information on new assult vehicles that were needed to attack on enemy beaches. These vehicles provided new technology for our Marine Corps. General Krulak convinced an admiral to board one of the demonstration vehicles. Krulak ended up attacking a coral reef and knocking the vehicle off track. The admiral was already enraged by taking up time to try and give this demonstration veicle a chance to prove his thoughts wrong. Admiral ended up jumping into the knee deep water and was sent back out to his ship shortly after. Later after reading, I came to find out the obstacles we had to overcome with making and carrying out actions with our bombs in specific weather conditions. The Marine Corps are not always given many materials to make "weapons" with. We were taught and coached on how to make do with what was given to us. We learned to innovate and try new things. We had to learn and abide by the term of being "frugal" with our belongings. We had to experiment and never give up. We had to never lose hope or give in. After a while of learning to use our stock wisely, we were able to invent new weapons. Towards the end of my reading, I started to relate to the book, thinking of my actions in my everyday lifestyle. It talks about the Marine Corps relationship with the public and how people kind of "percieve" the Marine Corps. As a Marine, I know that we uphold one of the highest images and are always know to be ready for anything, and because we have been molded and shaped into that type of team, it has withheld that image for the…

I believe that the mission of the author, Victor H. Krulak, Lieutenant General, USMC (Ret.), in writing this book was to describe how vital the United States Marine Corps is to our nation and that through the extensive preparation and training we receive, we have become the leading fighting force on and off the battle field. The purpose of this book was to inspire readers about the Marine Corps and to explain stories about how different equipment came into the Corps and how we perfected them. The author’s goal was the educate readers based on his personal experiences and opinions about the Marine Corps livelihood, duty and history.…

The book reads as a case study of the philosophy and practice of warrior cultures throughout the ages, U.S. Marines included. It covers the history of combat and the societies that worshiped it. The book is an extremely easy read, but it is hard to undertsand the point Pressfield is trying to make at times. Overall, it feels like a history lesson that is meant to remind us why we are fighting and to remember the values we hold close as a warrior culture. After reading this book it is easy to see that it was written for service-members. While the book has it's positives, it doesn't seem to make any progression. Each chapter feels like it is talking about the same thing as the last. Pressfield constantly looks back into history to make his point. Overall I would recommend this book to people in the military, but…

Why do similar modern democracies like the United States and Japan have strikingly different immigration policies? Despite both countries having post-industrial economies in need of qualified, skilled labor, their policies in regard to this crucial issue remain on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. While one would think that countries as developmentally analogous as the United States and Japan would share similar policies and goals in regard to immigration, this is hardly the case. The United States takes a very liberal approach to immigration and accepts it as a regular and necessary utility of society; Japan, on the other hand, implements a much more restrictive policy and views immigration more as a last resort than anything close to a necessity. In total, the United States accepts between seven and eight times more immigrants than Japan (Hollander). These distinct differences in policy come from two main sources; dissimilarities in both culture and governmental structure play a large role in the variance of immigration policies in these two, otherwise comparable, countries.…

The rain beat down on the sundered battlefield as the lone warrior struggled to find shelter. In his current state he would not stand a chance should he be attacked though the piles of dead enemy and ally spoke that who or whatever had caused the sundering had left no survivors except him. He glanced ahead and saw what he thought might be a cave if he approached and it was just an indentation in the small cliff he’d most likely die here and his most likely unintentional sparing would be for nothing. He inhaled deeply and released in a painful shuddering breath he was sure his ribs were broken he decided to take his chances with the thing he hoped was a cave and started toward it. His normal confident stride now a pitiful limp from an arrow…

The cause of the American Spanish war in 1898 was the finale impact when the USS Maine was destroyed. The Newspaper of American Press (yellow press) stated it was the Spanish whom attacked the United States. This was published by William R. Hearst, and Joseph Pulitzer which also cause a stir amongst the Americans and the Government. The people of America had cheered “Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain!”. Even the presses continue with other articles stating that Spanish General Valeriano was mistreating the Cubans. It was also said it was over exaggerating of the mistreatment to cause another stir and support by the U. S. and the Government. This began a major support by the United States to uphold freedom in Cuba and also free trade amongst the two countries. This was the first war fought where both the North and the South had come together since the Civil War. The biggest support was the move fleets to the East where they attacked a fleet of the Spanish off the coast of Philippines. This was to capture the Navy of Spanish before initial attack and also would seize the trade from the Asian Culture.…

A warrior, it is a concept of winning the battle through the respect and service of which you love and are driven to excel at. A warrior can be defeated but has won many times. He is one that never gives up and never backs down. One that will put up a fight even when he is down. A warrior doesn’t always have to win every battle. A warrior is not a loser but is a winner whether physically or in the heart. In life there are many people that survive life as a warrior. I say that because in my mind a warrior never dies. He may lose but if he is a true warrior than he never dies. A warrior usually overcomes a stuggle or many throughout his life. A warrior has a motivation in his life that keeps him fighting until he cant fight any more. Usually that stuggle is his motivation to keep fighting everyday to survive in life. In Bagger Vance Pressfield quotes about Junah “He was a Warrior. Purged of ego, disipline, focused, without fear or hope, living with every fiber of his essence in the present and only the present.” He is right. A warrior isnt scared of anything but has hope for everything. He never lives from the past but only in the present. He might use the past just for motivation but not to defeat him inside.…
