War Horse
War Horse film is a drama movie inspired from the the children’s novel War Horse written by the British author Michael Morpurgo in 1982. The movie displays the journey of an English horse in Europe before and during the First World War in order to illustrate the strong relationship between the horse and its owner. The film was professionally directed by Steven Speilberg who was successful to attract the attention of the young audiences during the 146 minutes of the film. War Horse was released in Dec 2011 by Walt Disney Pictures. It has achieved high revenues estimated by 167.80 million US dollars according to Wikipedia.

Although the story of the film is not real, it gives a brief introduction to how the Europeans were living, clothing, farming and dealing with each other before and during the First World War. In contrast, the main content of the film has nothing new to add to the attendants. The movie was lacking integrity in some scenes especially when the transitions between them are not related to each other. The visual clearance and the picture quality are amazing, but the usage of many sound effects became annoying in some parts of the movie. Thus some people did not like it. However, the young people who loves guns and bombs sounds are enjoying it. According to the New York Times, the film was nominated for more than five different rewards. One of the rewards includes picture quality.

In summary, the film was interesting for me because I like war movies in general despite the fact that it has nothing new to be viewed. Thus, I don’t recommend it for those who are looking for something new. In addition, it is not recommended for children’s due to the violence scenes which shows corpses.

This movie is suitable for most of the public except the teenager nad children. Here is the reason why. In this movie, indecent is include in some of the scene. For example Julia and Winston having sex outdoor. Also nake scene is always happen. It is not saying that sex, naked is indecent but consider this scene is allow for the minority. Therefore children is not suitable to watching this. Second is the implication of the movie. The tone of the movie is satire the political and the reflections of the satire is the core of the movie. Most of the teenagers and children does not have enough knowledge and life experience to understand what the movie want to bring out. For them, they may only receive the surface message of the movie which have no reward of watching the movie. As i said before, this is a very meaning movie which is one of the masterpiece of the antiutopia. However the message inside the movie and some of the indecent scene which cause it was not suitable for the teenager and the children.…

Absa's use of untrained actors/actresses works well in this film by giving it a flavor of reality. I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in seeing things from a non-western point of view or anyone wanting to see how different cultures interact and intertwine. If you do not like subtitled/foreign films, I would not recommend this movie unless you have a grasp of the French language. There is some fun poked at the differences involving Islam and Christianity, so if you are not tolerant or can't find humor in religion, you may be slightly offended.…

    Mare's War

Any normal grandmother would visit you with open arms, chocolate chip cookies, and comment on how amazing you look. However, in Mare’s War, by Tanita Davis, Mare is not your average grandma (unless you consider normal grandmas to wear auburn wigs, stiletto heels, and padded push up bras). Therefore, Mares granddaughters, Octavia and Tali, are dreading to accompany their 80 year old grandmother on a road trip across the country. As the three travel further into their journey, they begin to build a closer relationship and understand Mare’s past. Mare’s War was written in a particular fashion to express two different point of views. One is in the past representing Mare’s perspective, while the other is given from her 15 year-old granddaughter Octavia, during the present. Ultimately, both sides represent the struggle of equality: Mare’s battle of racism in the past, and Tali’s judgemental thoughts of her sister, today.…

Many elements made this an entertaining film. For instance, the visual elements such as the battlefield’s special effects. Also the romance, the faith, the hope, the honor, and the triumph made this a captivating film. This film had a lot of criticism, but people need to face the fact that this is not a historical documentary, and that it is just entertainment. Yes the film’s setting is in the past, yes the film is about the Revolutionary War, and yes it deals with history, but that does not automatically make it a documentary. I would definitely recommend this to another student.…

    War Horse Stage Evaluation

“War Horse” is the adapted stage production of the famous children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo. The story is about a young boy and his relationship with his beloved horse, and the events that follow them both being thrown into the First World War. Adapting a novel where the title character is a horse into a theatre production presents unavoidable issues as, for obvious reasons, you cannot use a real horse in a live theatre performance. However, upon watching the performance I found that the issue had been handled creatively and realistically. Intricate puppets were used to represent the horses in the story and were manipulated in the production by members of the Handspring Puppet Company. To ensure a life – like quality, the greatest care had been taken by the puppeteers over the movements and characteristics of the horses. The same care was also taken for the actual artistic design of the puppets themselves. With these combined qualities, I found myself forgetting there were puppeteers at all and believing I was watching the journey of a real horse. The story line was always adventurous and exciting, being passionately portrayed by the actors. While the first half introduced the characters and story line, the second half was filled with many thrilling and emotional scenes with some even being either in German or French, giving the story further character development and making it culturally diverse.…

    Horse Playing in the Army

Horse play is defined as Rowdy or boisterous play; gay or light hearted recreational activity for diversion or amusement, typical on many construction sites between fellow workers, usually within a familiar team or crew and can often result in unintentional physical harm. Some other common names used for horse play are goofing off, playing around, and rough housing. There is a very thin line between harmless play and dangerous horse play. In most situations, even the most seemingly harmless joke or action can result in serious injury or worse. To safety conscious companies, horse play can be defined as any distracting or frivolous activity deviating from the task at hand. Horse playing no matter what you might call it, is wrong. Yes it is fun but it is also dangerous, it can lead to problems such as rivalry, hate crimes and even death. What might have started as “horse play” for two people could end up as something more than what you might want.…

Stephen Spielberg’s War Horse is a based off of its Tony award-winning Broadway play. The movie starts off in Devon where we are first introduced to a young man named Albert, his father Ted, mother Rose and Lyons the landlord. The father goes to a horse auction in high hopes of finding a horse to help plow the land for crops in order to pay rent and make a living. Once Ted is at the auction he looks upon this horse that is much smaller in size than all the other horse but seemed to have more energy than the rest. At the auction Lyon and Ted bid on the horse going back and forth over price until Ted uses part of his rent money to out bid Lyon. Once ted returns back to the farm his wife realized that this is not the kind of plow horse needed in order to plow this land and also the amount of money he spent in order to get him. Albert decides he is going to train the horse and plow the stone filled field; he then names the horse Joey. Albert begins spending time with Joey trying to train…

Despite the positive aspects of the film there were more down sides one of which was the setting didn’t match the language. The main problem is they didn’t paraphrase at all. If they had been any closer to the original style of speech they would have been reciting the play word for word and this made it hard to understand at parts. For example during the fights they would call…

I would rate this film **, mainly due to the fact that this adventure/ romance/ drama comprises of poor dialogue and subpar acting. I would not recommend this movie to others because I believe it takes the legend of King Arthur, and turns it into a traditional Hollywood film. I believe this film appeals to both men and women due to its combination of romance and action. Despite some of the gory battle scenes, this movie contains zero profanity and sexual scenes (although suggestions are made as well as a few passionate kisses), making it appropriate for teenagers and…

    Lord of War

Warlord by definition is “a military commander exercising civil power in a region, whether in nominal allegiance to the national government or in defiance of it. (American Heritage Dictionary).” In the move Lord of War Nicolas Cage serves this purpose in a different way. The main plot for the film is Nicolas Cage getting rich off of wars by selling arms to countries in opposition. The beginning of the film shows the societal problem of race in the United States because it shows how his family had to pretend to be Jewish to fit in to the small town in New York and survive without condemnation. I think this is where his life takes a downward spiral. Childhood is what molds you and if you see that your parents are lying and they teach you to lie and not have value for who you are and where you came from then that ‘s the values that you will carry into adulthood. Don’t get me wrong I understand that they were doing this to protect the family but the father actually took on the role of a Jewish man in his everyday behaviors. His brother never felt “good enough” compared to his big brother and the parents put more responsibility on the older brother than they did the younger which can explain his drug and alcohol abuse it takes him away from the devalued self image that he has.…
