Abstract

This paper will take a look at the product lines that the Walt Disney Corporation has to offer both on a national and world wide market. I will give a brief history of the company and explain the different product lines that are available through each of Disney’s outlets.

Since its founding in 1923, The Walt Disney Company and its affiliated companies have remained faithful to their commitment to produce unparalled entertainment experience based on the rich legacy of quality creative content and exceptional storytelling. The Walt Disney Company, together with its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading diverse international family entertainment and media enterprise with four major business segments; media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, and consumer product (corporate.disney.go.com). Disney Consumer Products (DCP) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company that extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys and home décor to books and magazines, foods and beverages, stationery, electronics and animation art. This is accomplished through DCP 's various lines of business which include: Disney Toys, Disney Fashion & Home, Disney Food, Health & Beauty and Disney Stationery. Other businesses involved in Disney 's consumer products sales are Disney Publishing Worldwide, the world 's largest publisher of children 's books and magazines and DisneyStore.com, the company 's official shopping portal. The Disney Stores retail chain, which debuted in 1987, is owned and operated by Disney in North America and Europe. The Disney Stores chain in Japan is operated under a license agreement with Disney. In the last few years

It was founded in 1923 by Roy and Walt Disney, who came to Hollywood from Kansas City, Missouri. Walt and Roy produced a short animated film series that became known as the Alice Comedies. The small studio in which they worked was outgrown and replaced by a larger facility, where they became Disney Bros. Studio (Disney Archives). In 1928, Mickey Mouse was born, followed by Pluto, Goofy, and the rest of the Disney gang, and the Disney Brothers Studio became the Walt Disney Studio. Disney’s first full-length animated film came out in 1937.     First,what is the Disney corporation and how did it come to be? It was created almost single handedly by Walter Elias "Walt" Disney. He was born on December 5, 1901, one of five children. Walt had a love for drawing cartoons early on and even made money as a child by selling some of them to family and friends. When he was 16 he joined the Red Cross as an ambulance driver for WW1 after being denied service in the army for his young age. This patriotic fervor that would later shape his cartoons.
