Voyage On The Seahawk Character Analysis

Charlotte changes in many ways on her voyage on the Seahawk. In the book The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi, Charlotte Doyle changes greatly. Charlotte learns to stand up for herself in many ways. Furthermore, Charlotte does many daring things on her voyage to Rhode Island. Also, Charlotte learns to be tough. Charlotte Doyle changes in many ways threw out her voyage on the Seahawk. During Charlotte Doyle’s ride on the Seahawk, she learns how to be tough. Charlotte Doyle learns to be tough in many ways. For one, Charlotte tackles Mr. Hollybrass because he is whipping Zachariah. At one point in the book, Charlotte states, “ I hurled myself at Hollybrass, who, hardly expecting an attack, twisted, then tumbled to the deck.” (Avi 94) She also joins the crew when she climbs the royal yard. Climbing the royal yard makes her very tough. As a result of Charlotte getting tougher, she she starts to try daring things. As the book progresses, Charlotte starts to do daring things.
When Charlotte defends herself at trial she stands up for herself. She stood up for herself even though she was standing alone and the crew did not help defend her. Threw out the book, Charlotte stands up for her strength. When Charlotte is told that she is to weak to climb the royal yard she proves everyone wrong and completes the challenge. Many times in the book Charlotte stands up for Zachariah and the crew. Avi on page 70 states that Charlotte says, “The crew is tired” which is standing up for the crew.
