When an organization in today’s business world looks at managing a virtual staff, there are many questions that come to mind. Is this the future of businesses in our marketplace? Do the benefits outweigh the challenges? This is a very big decision and must be evaluated at length before any decisions are made. In many cases, it will depend on the organization, what they do and the employees they hire. Over all, there will always benefits and challenges. The key is being able to identify whether your organization is able to operate at a productive level from the virtual business setup.
When you examine the benefits, the first thing that stands out is a happy group of employees. As an employee commuter, there are many things that can become frustrating and add stress to each day. Traffic, public transportation and managing a family while having to be at the office on time are just a few. I believe that employees who are able to work from home are able to manage most of these additional pressures and frustrations much easier which in the end results in a happy employee. When employees are happy, that almost always results in increased productivity. Uninterrupted work from working at home, less interruptions from fellow employees and no commute time are a few of the great advantages of being able to work from home which results in increased work time and productivity for the organization. The flexibility that these employees experience is also second to none. Unlimited flexibility can be a two sided sword which is why hiring motivated and driven employees is essential. Also, employees who would have normally taken a sick day at the office can still work from home when those days of feeling under the weather occur.
