Violence in the Media has grown in our society for sometime. The world is constantly flooded with violent images from the media. Including television, video games, movies, and music. There have been cases around the world that kids at the ages of two to eighteen years spend at least six hours per day using media. What types of media attracts most people? Murder, death, sexual exploitation, profanity, and lots of action to keep you at the edge of your seat. There have been studies that show that violence changes the affect on the frontal cortex of the brain. Less activity on the frontal cortex shows that the person has been exposed to more media violence than the person with more frontal activity. Kids who should be learning about sexual activity from their parents around their high school years are learning them early just by watching the media. Every TV show or movies you watch has at least one sex scene or even more giving the child early knowledge of sexual activity. The media such as today is so addictive that it’s hard to escape it’s influence. A 15 year old boy committed suicide when his father took his Xbox away from him. In my opinion it serves as a day to day function were you should watch television for a certain amount of hours. Many people believe that media is the main reason youngsters are committing violence in schools. The media is the main reason why teenage pregnancy is still increasing and parents are scared to let their kids go outside to play.
The world we are in now is much different than it was years ago. There was no such thing as the video game “syndrome,” or addiction to playing them. Now researchers are calling it a disease for kids who spend numerous hours watching the media or playing video games. Most movies out right now share these three main topics; love, crime, and sex. Why is this? Movie producers and directors know that these are the movies people are most likely spend there money on first. Children watching hours of this type of entertainment tend to be more aggressive because they try to perpetuate their favorite scenes into their own lives. On the news there was a 22 month old baby who had suffered spinal cord injuries from a 6 year old boy imitating a wrestler’s move he had seen on TV. These are the types of things that happen when children watch aggressive personalities on the television. When I was a little boy I used to imitate my favorite show, Dragon Ball Z. My brother and I would practice fighting moves from the episode we had just watched, pretending we were in a big battle. We acted out the aggressive personalities on each other and sometimes got hurt in the process.
Music is also an important factor for violence in the media. Most hip-hop songs written today have profanity in each verse or are talking about selling drugs and having sex. Children are growing up faster and learning things that I didn’t learn until I was in high school due to the media.

After the tragic shooting at Columbine High School in 1999, President Clinton asked The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate whether the motion picture, music, and video games industries advertised and marketed violent material to children and adolescents. Working with industry-provided documents, the FTC determined that, despite the fact that their own rating systems found the material appropriate for only adults; these industries practiced “pervasive and aggressive marketing of violent movies, music, and electronic games to children” (Pediatrics, 108). There was also a horrible shooting that happened in Alabama where the involved child’s action were blamed on a violent video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. “ We had studied the investigation in our class for over a week and learned that the kid played the game day and nights for months which they called it a murder simulator.” San Andreas is about an young African American who in order...
