There have been many studies done on the subject and in each such study, the good far outweigh the bad when it comes to furthering ones education. The nation has gone to one of farming and agriculture, to the industrial revolution. Now, in the twenty-first century, the ever-changing computer technology industry dominates the workplace. In order to keep up with this technology, the need to further ones education is in a much higher demand. Employer's have gone from," what have you done in past," to," what have you done for me lately." A paper education can almost assure someone of making more money in their lifetime than that of their peers whom do not seek out education beyond high school. The adventure of earning a college degree can not only mean earning more money in ones lifetime, but also living a more meaningful, and usually, healthier life.. Growing up, most young people have dreams of graduating from high school, going to college, getting married and living a long happy life. The reality of this is that while ninety percent of young people graduate from high school, only sixty percent go on to college (U.S Census Bureau, July 2002). From those that attend college after high school, only a percentage of those actually attain a degree. Some say that money is the root of happiness, while others will argue that love is all it takes. Well, love never paid the bills. The benefits of earning a college degree go well beyond just the simple fact that more money will be earned in a lifetime. When someone earns more money, they are able to provide a better quality of life for their family. With the divorce rate of 3.8 per 1000 in population in the United States (U.S. Census Bureau, July 2002), money is one thing that should not get in the way of living a

“It’s just extremely disappointing and aggravating to have paid all that money and have nothing to show for it other than debt.” proclaimed Michelle Polyakov, an English graduate from Drake University. Polyakov obviously feels that college is not worth the cost and that all someone has to show for the education is debt. College has been deemed, by some, that it is not worth the cost because of the financial loss, the future job security, and the need for “blue collar” jobs. Finances, job security, and the need for manual laborers are all major factors in the debate of college and its cost. College is a privilege, and not every job requires you to have a higher form of learning, but most do. By viewing the debt of a student after graduation, the job security of graduates, and the need for manual laborers, one can infer that college is not worth the cost.…

Today in America going to college is more of a necessity than an option; however, college is expensive. Most people cannot afford the upfront cost of tuition and fees along with the additional costs of dorms, meals, textbooks, and other supplies to attend college. Because of this many students resort to taking out student loans that could potentially cost them more in the future. With the cost of attending college constantly rising many people are finding themselves asking the question of rather or not college is really worth the cost. Also, some people feel that going to college is a waste of time. Some feel this way because not all jobs require degrees, so they feel there is no purpose in spending long hours at an institution obtaining one. Others feel that they should not be required to meet the general education requirements of most colleges, but should instead be able to use the time taking classes relevant to their career field. Many people argue that because of these reasons college is not worthwhile. However, despite these facts, going to college has several benefits that make it very valuable.…

“In the United States today, there is no more certain investment than a college education”(Carnevale and Melton). Education has always been a major component of American society. One can only go so far without an education, and the more education and knowledge someone has, the better their chances of being successful. Some people believe a high school education is enough, and it is, enough to land a job at a fast food restaurant. I speculate they feel this way because they feel school is not for them, or maybe they just do not want to go far in life. To get far in life people must go above and beyond, and learn things that others do not know to make them stand out in job interviews. College helps develop skills that are necessary for life, and gives them an education that will enhance their future; and despite its few drawbacks, college is worth it.…
