Valley Forge Dbq Essay
Have you ever thought about if you would enlist for war? Or better yet re-enlist after a harsh winter? Washington’s army has been at Valley Forge, PA for the whole winter, and some have quit and walked away, while some have simply deserted. I would re-enlist because my men are sick, I’m loyal to my country, and I believe in my cause. One reason I would re-enlist is because I’m loyal to my country. Thomas paine said, “But he that stands it now, deserves love and thanks of women and men.” (Doc D) Thomas Paine inspired me to stay and fight for my family and peers because we all deserve to be treated equally, and I want my family and friends to have the best life possible to have all rights necessary. Without me and the army’s help, we would be getting taxed without representation and this would be affecting my family greatly because our money would be taken away for no reason. …show more content…
In Doc A, the chart shows how many of my men are sick. It also says that 4,000 soldiers got sick during the winter. Although this is true, there is also a 85% chance that I will live this winter. I want to stay and fight for my fallen soldiers who are sick and I want to make them proud with our great triumph and victory. Also, I want to help them get better in anyway so that when this brutal war is over, they can go back safely to their families.
My last reason for re-enlisting is because I believe in my cause. In Document D Thomas Paine said “Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared she has the right to not only tax but to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER.” This quote from Thomas Paine really pushes me to fight for what the colonies need and it makes me want to take down Britain and get the colonies independence. We will fight to have freedom, and taxation WITH representation.

    One aspect of this is the inadequate clothing the troops had. One fifth of them had no shoes, and going barefoot in the dead of winter would not have been any fun. (Doc.     The decision not to reenlist weighed heavy on my mind for about a half a year. I had to determine the issues associated with the decision to leave the military life. This was the life I was custom to for the last 13 years. One issue was the financial part of leaving the military. The next issue was living conditions. One alternative of not getting out would be staying in three more years. Next I would have to evaluate the alternatives for staying in. The result of that would mean a higher possibility of getting deployed. I have two older children who were dependent on themselves and also a seven month old daughter. Even though she would have gone to my mother home, no one takes care of your baby better than you. Once I decided to leave the military, I had to implement my decision. After I left the military, I enrolled in college and volunteered at a hospital. As I was finishing my freshman year at college it came time to evaluate my decision to leave the military. Leaving the military I am a single parent, employed full time, and going to school full time. If I had to do it over again I think I would have stayed in the military and chance the possibility of getting deployed. My decision-making process goes almost hand- in-hand with the stages of the decision making process from the book. By not taking all the alternatives into consideration is the one step that did not consider. One alternative would have been to enlist in the reserves. Still possessing the military in my employment, part- time and going to school would be more effective than giving the military up altogether. I love the military life and I have been affiliated with some form of the military life from my teenage years until my late thirties.
