Unit 6 M2 And M3
Sharna Rose, 13VA
BTEC National in Level 3 Health and Social Care
Unit 6: Personal and Professional in Health and Social Care
M2: Assess how the action plan has helped support own development over the duration of the programme
M3: Use an example to examine the link between theory and practice

Creating action plans and reflective practice has helped me develop both personally and professionally. Through the duration of my health and social care course, looking back at the goals I had set myself in the beginning some were more realistic than others. However, an action plan gave me a better way of how to progress with my goals and targets. Designing an action plan in order to fit my individual needs also developed my organisational – being organized and prepared for an assignment has allowed me to work on a timely manner. When creating my reflective practices I was able to think about how the units I studied linked to the practical side of the course (work experience). This helped my development as I was able to see how the work experience impacted on my learning and the different tasks within the units. I was able to identify my weaknesses and what I could improve on.

My work experiences
My work placements as a whole were somewhat diverse, in terms of age group, setting, profession and both group and individual requirements. My first work placement was at Kingswood Primary School - supporting and assisting Year 3 pupils (7-8 years old) with their learning, my second work placement I was able to also assist and give care to elderly individuals in The Dulwich Care Home. My finally work placement was in another school named Christ Church Primary School - mainly supporting and giving assistance to 'under achievers' and those who required special needs.

All of my work experiences were very enjoyable and provided me with fresh skills and the ability to communicate effectively with many different individuals. However, the placement I found most effective was the care

When reflective practice is developed within a setting it benefits by being able to identify strengths and weaknesses from each practitioner. By discovering which practitioners are stronger at doing certain things than other this will develop practice because, for example, if one practitioner has outstanding art and craft skills then practice will be more effective if they are the ones in charge of craft activities with the children or even planning wall displays for the children’s work. When practitioners in the setting develop their reflective practice they will review the planning cycle after activities to reflect on how successful it was and whilst reviewing the progress it will be clear if any practitioner may have any training needs that could help improve practice further. This also gives the practitioners the opportunity to increase their skills and develop professionally.…

My knowledge, development, skills and understanding has made a difference to the staff in my placement because my experiences have crafted me to become nearly as proficient as a health care professional which may have given an opportunity to the employees that there is an extra hand available. With the knowledge I have been able to pick up from college, I used this in practice which made a difference by maintaining team work with the other staff members and working more efficiently seeing as there are more people to look after the individuals. Using my skills such as being organised and having time-management, I was also able to assist the staff with paper work and arrange specific things for the individuals and this resulted in them having less work or being less stressed than they could have been with more time to focus on other things in order to provide for the service users. My understanding through how much I have developed also made a difference because they did not have to explain certain things to me again; I already knew what to do from my previous experiences which showed that I am conversant and skilled.…
