Unit 4
Business Communication Assignment
Introduction
I have chosen Tesco as the main organisation and I will be answering questions on whether it has an impact on Tesco or not. Tesco plc is a global grocery and general merchandising retailer headquartered in Cheshunt, United Kingdom. Tesco is the fourth-largest retailer in the world measured by revenues, after Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Metro. The second-largest measured by profits after Wal-Mart. It has stores in 14 countries across Asia, Europe and North America and is the grocery market leader in the UK (where it has a market share of around 30%), Malaysia and Thailand. Tesco was established by Jack Cohen in the 1919. The brand first appeared after Cohen bought a shipment of tea from T.E. Stockwell and he used those initials and added the first two letters of his own surname. The first Tesco store was opened in 1929 in Burnt Oak, Edgware, and Middlesex. Originally a UK-focused retailer specialising in food and drink, it has diversified both geographically and by product, into areas such as clothing, electronics, financial services, telecoms, home, health, car and dental insurance, retailing and renting DVDs, CDs, music downloads, Internet services and software.

Communication is a process of transmitting information within and outside the organisation, and is there to persuade others to undertake a specific action.

Verbal communication
Verbal communication is one way in which people communicates. Communication can be done face to face; some of the key elements of verbal communication are sound, words, speaking and language. Tesco has to have good communication skills in order for them to have a good relationship with their customer and share holders for if they didn’t have good communication skill the wouldn’t of be able to discuss innovation and promotions that is going on within their organisation to their customers. They may also have problems listening to what their customer want them to start selling, this could cause their problems where customers aren’t interested in shopping at Tesco because of their poor communication skills. The purpose of verbal communication is to update the knowledge of the person you are talking to so they could acquire more information and also is to communicate or inform and also is to development that may be occurring in the organisation.

Tesco’s Financial Performance
All figures below are for the Tesco's financial years, which run for 52 or 53 week periods to late February. Up to the 27 February 2007 period end the numbers include non-UK and Ireland results for the year ended on 31 December 2006 in the accounting year. The figures in the table below include 52 weeks/12 months of turnover for both sides of the business as this provides the best comparative. |52/3 weeks ended |Turnover (£m) |Profit before tax (£m) |Profit...
