Outcome 1 – Understand what is required for competence in own role.

1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role.
Duties and responsibilities are set by the company policies & procedures and also by following the codes of practise, which is a set of regulations explain standards and levels of care that carers are expected to work to as social care workers you must.
Protect the rights & promote the interests of service users & carers- this ensure that each service user/carer is an individual and as such you should respect their way of living and their views. Respect their right to make choices about the services they receive and maintaining dignity at all times.
Establish and Maintain the trust of a service user- By following policies & procedures about accepting gifts or money from service users, being reliable and dependable, and respecting the the service users rights to confidentiality. And with carers/ service users you need to communicate in an appropriate way,i.e. Not raising your voice being confrontational/ defensive.
Promote independence while protecting from harm.- By giving the service user enough information to enable them to make their own decisions with regards to task/ activity. Nd ensuring that they are not putting themselves or other at risk. If there is a risk to themselves or others then it's the duty of the carer to inform a senior member of staff and document the correct paperwork.
Respect the rights of service users while seeking to ensure that their behaviour does not harm themselves or others- By following correct policies & procedures and carrying out risk assessments prior to the start of any care , and making the risk assessment available to everyone involved in the care of the service user. Reducing the risk to to prevent the lowest possible harm to service user & others.
Uphold trust & confidence in social care services- You must not unwittingly cause abuse or harm to any service user or carer, at any time. You
