Unferth In Beowulf
This page is important, because the reader is able to see how Beowulf easily has an answer for being called out be Unferth. Beowulf also is able to tell Hrothagar a tell of his heroic triumphs. The reader is also able to see how Beowulf believes his fate is already predetermined. Beowulf refuses to die by the sea-beast because then they would be able to bask in the glory. The sea-beast could not kill him because he refused to let them; win his pride means more than his life. Beowulf is confident to fight with or without weapons. When Beowulf says the sailors are safe from raids shows he believes he is able to defeat and safe anything. We get to see a different side of how the natives of Heorot feel about Beowulf’s arrival. Unferth is jealous

    The first way we get to know Beowulf is through his own speech and actions. We learn of Beowulf's amazing heroism while he is speaking to the Danes about Grendel.     Beowulf proves to be a loyal character that is rear of his kind. He travels to Denmark just to aid people who have been in danger for twelve years. These people are Horthgar and the rest of the Danish people. Horthgar thankfully says to Beowulf “you have traveled here to favour us with help and fight for us” (line 457).The creature that creates this danger is called Grendel.
