UNESCO World Heritage
World heritage sites are significant to learn our history due to the fact that they give a specific foundation for ideas and authenticate them (“Cultural). World Heritage Site is a site that is listed by UNESCO to be a special cultural or bodily importance (“World Heritage site). From 1972, UNESCO took ‘Convention concerning the Protection of the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage,’ and it inherited in 1976 (“Introduction). The earliest list, which is listed in 1976, contains Galapagos Islands, an island which is in the Pacific Ocean, Mount Everest, a mountain in Nepal, Machu Picchu, a remain in Peru, Grand Canyon in the United States, the Great Barrier Reef, coral reef in Australia and the Great Wall of China (“Company). Therefore it is interesting to analyze UNESCO’s organizations, missions, and nomination and selection process.

UNESCO, which is a particular organization of United Nations that was set up on 16 November 1945, decides world Heritage. UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Head office is in Paris, and leader is a Bulgarian named Irina Bokova now. From 1945 to 2011, ten people have installed in its leader. Ninth leader was Japanese named Koichiro Matsuura worked between 1999 and 2009 (“UNESCO). UNESCO looks for give confidence the identification, keep safe, and maintain its original of world heritage of cultural and natural around the all over the world deliberated to be excellent value to people (“What benefits).

UNESCO has their missions and goals. UNESCO’s missions are to offer to the “building of peace,” to decrease the scarcity, and to keep maintenance growth and universal dialogue through teachings, sciences, civilizations, communications, and information (“UNESCO). The goal of UNESCO is to offer peace and safety by keeping universal collaboration through teaching, science, and civilization so as to further international respect for justice, law, and rights of people wit basic liberty stated publicity of UN Charter is a goal of UNESCO. The words around the mark were written in three languages. Patrimonio Mundial is Spanish phrases, which mean world heritage. Patrimoine Mondial is French phrases that mean world heritage too (“patrimoine).

World heritage sites are very important. First, the title of World Heritage is significant because of protection and presentation of possessions of remarkable worldwide worth or Outstanding Universal Value (“The Impact). Also World Heritage is remarkable internationally known natural and cultural characters because it fascinates the admiration and deserve the preservation of every people (“World Heritage Convention). Moreover, a nationwide cultural professional, Lim Bun Hok said that if world heritage sites are very close to crisis, the international community must take care of it and keep it because it is whole world’s fortune (“World Heritage Status). However, Amazon rain forest is vanishing and mining plan cut into there, and Pyramids are under the influence of air pollution. Also, Grand Canyon is covered by thin mist (McNamee). Therefore according to Lim Bun Hok, people should be in charge of them.

There are Pre-convention, and Convention period in world heritage. In Pre-convention period, in 1954, Egypt makes a decision of building Aswan Dam. During that time, UNESCO started universal conservation movement. Abu Simbel and Philae temple, which are wealth of ancient Egypt, were dismantle, and transferred to an upper place, and returned little by little. It cost 80 million dollars.
