CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction “Education is the key to the long-term problems of the country. If we fix basic education, we fix the long-term problems of the country. And if we fix the country’s problems, we will build a truly strong society. . .” (Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III) The K+12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. This means that all students are required to enroll in Kindergarten first, before advancing into Elementary. The current 4 years of Secondary level will be changed into 6 years, divided in Junior High School and Senior High School. The batch of first year high school students on SY 2012-2013 will be the first ones to experience the new high school curriculum. This means that by SY 2016-2017 they will undergo Senior High, instead of already finishing Secondary level. And by SY 2018-2019 students are required to have attended the full 12 years of basic Education for them to be accepted in the Tertiary level. In other words, it is a program to ensure mastery of skills and abilities after graduating in 12 years of education. K+12 has to different benefits to both individuals and to our society and economy. Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community. While this may be true, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competitive among other countries. The K+12 education plan offers a great solution to that problem. However, it is undeniable that there seems to be problems arising as we implement the program such as lack of government budget, classrooms and school supplies as well as the teachers. But, if we focus on the long-term effect of K+12, we can conclude that it is very beneficial to us Filipinos. Therefore, we must have the strong will in supporting K+12 Educational Plan for the betterment of our education system and economy. Remember, if we want change in our society, we must start it with our education system.

Statement of the Problem This study primordially focuses on the perception of Purok 4-B Rajah Muda Bula, General Santos City about K+12. Specifically, it seeks answers to the following queries:
1. How do/does the resident/s adopt the K+12 Program?
2. How do the following affect the budget of a family?
a. Financially
b. New level of education
c. Way of living
d. Emerging to studies
e. Personal experiences
f. Socio-economic status

Significance of the Study
The study is significant to:
To the Students. This study gives information to the students on how they can more prepared, well-trained and to ensure mastery of skills and abilities. This new educational system gives the student a sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
To the Teachers. This study gives information to the teachers on how to deal with the new educational system and how to follow the new tactics in the way of teaching since it develops an intellectual, yet interesting learning habit. In reality, this method helps the students in revising what has been taught previously.
To the Parents. Parents must attend a seminar to determine the new educational system and to add knowledge in adopting the new system.
To the School Administrator.

Scope and Delimitation
This study will only focus on the perception of Purok 4-B Rajah Muda Bula, General Santos City about K+12. The following factors will be determined if they affect the perception of the respondents:
a. Financial b. New level of Education
c. Way of living d. Emerging to studies
e. Personal experiences f. Socio-economic status
There are forty-five (45) randomly selected constituents of Purok 4-B Rajah Muda, Bula were chosen to be the respondents of this study.
The researcher conducted the study in Purok 4-B Rajah Muda Bula, General Santos City specifically in the residents. The gatherings of data were from the month of November 2013 up to February 2014.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Hypothesis

Definition of terms
Socio-economic status – Conceptually, it is an economic and sociological combined total measure of a person's work experience and of an individual's or family’s economic and social position relative to others, based on income, education, and occupation. – Operationally, it refers to the status of a person financially stable.

CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY This chapter presents the methodology that will be employed in this study. This includes research design, respondents, instruments, data gathering procedure, and statistical treatment.
Research Design This study is a descriptive and qualitative type of research. The researcher described the perception of Purok 4-B Rajah Muda, Bula, General Santos City. The researcher employed the survey method in gathering the necessary data on the perception of respondents from the month of November 2013 to February 2014.
