Uber was the third in a series of startups Kalanick had helped get off the ground and the first that has been truly successful. It took Kalanick years to get where he is now. At one point before Uber even existed, Kalanick was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sleeping in his parents ' house. Kalanick’s planning activities included analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding in what types of activities the company will engage, choosing corporate and business strategies, and determining the resources needed to achieve the organization’s goals. These plans set the stage for action and for major achievements within Uber’s business model. Many corporations operate worldwide, transcending national borders.
