Turpin Marching Band Case Study

Dear Principle Spencer, Associate Principal Lee, and Athletic Director Fry: You do so much for this school. The goal of success for all students is incredibly apparent through your actions. It is obvious that the football team is amazing, and so are the other sports. They all put forth hard work, and earn their greatness. But you are neglecting a major part of home football games: the marching band. The Turpin Marching Band is one of, if not the biggest team in the school, with 150 members. These people train just as hard as the football team. I can tell you with experience, with how many times I’ve pushed a heavy synth cart through the mud, or up the hill to the stadium like King Sisyphus’ boulder in the underworld. I’ve marched so hard I
They never were appreciated, and they grew into a terrorist organization. Do not let that happen to the members of the band. We are not announced enough. We are barely even recognized as a sport. What is a sport anyway? Football is a sport. What about band? The definition of a sport is “An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” What part does band not fulfill? Do we not do physical work? Do we not have skill to play instruments during that? Do we not compete with others? Is our very purpose not to entertain? Are we not a team? Are we not a sport?

Are we not a sport? Do we not work hard? We work just as hard as the football team, but they get all of the glory. We perform at pep rallies and home football games, and sometimes basketball games. But besides that, nothing. We have already earned two grand champions this year, against schools bigger than us. It takes hard work to do that. Even Anderson, with a smaller band, won grand champion with a Fed Ex show. That takes hard work. How can we preach “success for all students” if we do not appreciate all of their hard work? We are a sport, and we deserve to be treated like
