A king put his court to a test for an important post. Powerful and wise men stood around him in great numbers.

In earlier times, people were separated by great distances and came into contact with each other only in unusual circumstances. Today, however, modern technology has dramatically increased the probability of transcultural contact. Just by opening up the morning paper we step beyond the limits of our daily lives and establish contact with the problems faced by other people from varying cultural circles and groups. As a rule, we understand these events only to the extent that we are used to them from our own way of thinking. In my experience, I have found that a particular situation has developed in which transcultural problems are partially expressed clearly and openly, but also partly sublimated and finely differentiated under the surface of daily interaction. I am speaking here of the marriage between people of two different cultures.
