Toys For Tots Case Study
Subject: Mending Hearts One Gift at a Time

AV Homes and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, the premier community action program of the U.S. Marine Corps, have partnered together to make sure no child goes without a gift this holiday season.

With over 15.5 million children living in poverty in the United States, we here at AV Homes felt there was no better time than the present to lend a helping hand in bringing joy to less fortunate children during this most special time of year.

Toys for Tots started in 1947 in Los Angeles, CA when a group of Marine Reservists collected about 5,000 toys for needy children. Today, almost 70 years later, Toys for Tots provides a message of hope to 30,000 children in Orange and Seminole counties alone.

Donations must be new, in original packaging and unwrapped. Toys for Tots prefers not to accept stuffed animals.

Toys for Tots also accepts monetary donations which will be used to purchase toys for children, and all of the toys that are bought with donated funds are purchased at local stores.

Marine Gunnery Sgt. Andrell Durden, program coordinator for the Orlando area, estimates that more than 600 businesses will be collecting toys in 2016. He also pointed out that a number of local events have requested to have a Marine present on behalf of Toys for Tots. Whether it’s a fundraising event, breakfast with Santa, a 5k race or a holiday party, if you ask, the Marines will show up.

“We go to a lot of events,” says Gunnery Sgt. Durden. “We have 14 Marines designated for events this year. Last year we went to 52. If you want us at an event, we’ll make sure you’ll get two Marines in their dress blues. You just need to request

We are contributing to this out of our own funds as we can. A little here and there including selling personal items to help raise money. However we will fall well short of that goal on our own. Which is why we are requesting the help. Rest assured this is not a case of two kids being spoiled. They go long periods of time before getting things like what we are asking for. They are content with what they have until they cannot use it anymore which serves them well. Both of them own older consoles but are over 5 and 7 years old each and on the last leg each from use. They are overdue for something good and it will be a surprise as they do not know we are trying to do this for them. Thank you for considering donating to this…
