Tim Burton is one of the most well known directors for his style of writing. He was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, Dr. Seuss, and other famous children stories writers to make these kid movies, but add some kind of darkness to them somehow. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the darkness is resembled by every snotty, spoiled brat learning their consequences. In Edward Scissorhands, the darkness is resembled by how Edward didn’t fit in to the perfect neighborhood. Tim Burton’s style of writing makes these stories some of the best in known history. In the movie Edward Scissorhands, the dark and shadowy castle looks like something out of a horror movie. This is one of Tim Burton’s lighting techniques to make everything look grotesque and ominous.

An important component in Tim Burton’s movies is music. Music can make a scene eerie or joyful. In Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the music is mostly used for eerie and hopeless scenes. For example, the introduction of the castle in Edward Scissorhands, there was a creepy tone to go with the shadowy and ominous night. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton uses camera angles and effects to make small things look colossal. When the movie was first starting off, the camera started off with a super close up of the factory, and then started zooming out to show the little town. Tim Burton’s uses of camera angles make some of the best scenes. These angles can show signs of complete sadness and no hope at all, and change it to happiness and all the love in the world.
