Tide Rises, The Tide Falls
“The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls” written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and was a poem I wanted to write about because it intrigued me by all the figurative language. What I like about this piece of writing was the fact that he used different objects in the poem that represent meanings from actual aspects of life. This poem relates to today’s world because it explained the ups and downs of life and it’s a representation of the circle of life. It relates to all of us now in the world we live in because eventually one of us is going to have a downfall and ceased to exist and become a memory. The theme for “ The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls, The twilight darkens, The curlew calls” is about death because Longfellow rephrases that sentence in every

I see darkness in the area and the sea is erasing the footprints in the sand and the ocean is calling. “ The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls Stamp and neigh , as the hostler calls; The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveler to the shore The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls” In stanza 3 has me listening and seeing the scenery. I hear the horse neighing and the hostler yelling, and i see the traveler never getting to the shore which in that case he is dead. Longfellow used metaphors and personification throughout the poem, for example, one of the metaphors and personification used in one line is “The little waves, with their soft, white hands Efface the footprints in the sands,”.
In Henry’s poem, he repeats the phrase “ The tide rises, The tide falls” in the last line of every stanza. He also used rhyme in every stanza, for example the words “falls” and “calls” etc. Longfellow also uses a specific pattern which is AABBA pattern. Following the differentiation of each line, he did an exceptional job at writing this poem because he used so many sound devices which in my opinion is the best way of making a poem more
