This I Believe
True Friendship I believe that friendship is the greatest thing a person can have in their life. My friends have gotten me through tough times. Also, the majority of my finest memories are with my best friends. My few best friends can be trusted with my deepest darkest secrets. Therefore I believe that true friendship can last forever. I believe I started making friends almost right after I was born. I became friends with my parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, and neighbors. It started off with a smile at the park and soon I was playing like I had known the stranger forever. I believe the older that I get the more important and serious my friendships will become. Without friendship my life would be uninteresting and lonesome. That’s why I believe that treating my friends well and not taking them for granted is very important. I believe that true friendship is worth keeping even if you’re one hundred to one thousand miles apart. My best friends and I are going to different high schools and one will be going a few states away. We have been best friends since the 7th grade year. Even though we are complete opposites we understand each other and will always go along with the other’s crazy plans. We have had so much fun and been together for the last 2 years: they are the people I can trust with secrets, the people I spend the majority of my time with, and they are the people I will never forget. Although we look and act different from when we first met, although 8th grade is ending, and although we are all moving on with our lives, I know that we will still be friends for the rest of our lives. I believe this because my Father is still good friends with his bros he went to high school with. Even though they live across the country they still get together whenever they all have a chance, and I know that if they ever ran into each other on the street they would pick up from where they left off. I believe that true friendship can last forever and I plan on it lasting forever. We will visit each other at high school and where ever we end I up I know we will keep in touch, because I believe that true friendship can last forever.

Failure is something no one likes. I have learned over the years that failure is perceived as a bad thing. No one ever told me failure could be taken as a good thing. That was until I read a story in This I Believe II. The author explained why he liked failure and why failure could be a good thing. Forgiveness is something everyone should learn. Many people in our lives may do wrong to us and if we hold on to the hurt and anger we will never find happiness. I was one of those people who could hold a grudge forever, and then I realized that being happy was more important to me so I learned forgiveness (mainly with a little help). When I read a story in This I Believe II I realized the author had a life very similar to mine. It help me appreciate learning forgiveness.…

I believe that to be an American means to believe in yourself and stand up for what you believe in. So I have a story to tell about a boy in my third grade class and what he believed in. In my third grade class at Fort Crawford we had a variety of students but one student was very different than the rest of us. His name was Gino and he was a Jehovah witness. Gino was everyone’s friend and we did not treat him any differently than everyone else but my classmates and I didn’t understand some of the strange things he did or rather didn’t do. To begin with he didn’t celebrate birthdays not even his own and he also didn’t recognize any national holidays such as Christmas and Halloween. But the one thing that didn’t just confuse us but also confused the faculty at my school is that Gino didn’t say the pledge of allegiance. One day Gino brought into class a book to read at recess about two boys who also didn’t say the pledge of allegiance. In the book two students were confronted by their teacher about not saying the pledge allegiance and were sent to the principal’s office. Once in the office the principal had an American flag on his desk. He asked the boys to spit on the flag. The first boy spit on the flag before the principal even finished his sentence but the second boy refused. The principal didn’t understand why a student that wouldn’t say the pledge of allegiance also showed respect to the flag by not spitting on it. The student explained to the principal that he didn’t mean any disrespect to the flag by not saying the pledge of allegiance. The student loved America it was just against his religion to say the pledge. That book helped my classmates and I understand that Gino wasn’t being bad by not saying the pledge; he just had a different believe than the rest of us did.…

I believe that happiness is obtained through optimism, gratitude, and a strong will. I believe in looking at things under a new light, not one of those dull manufactured bulbs. I believe that for any goal to be accomplished, you must first accept the fact that nothing will be handed to you on a silver platter. There won’t be any instructional booklet for life. You must write your own. Yet such a thing isn’t naturally known, and it must be searched for.…

I believe in the successful garbage man. This would be seen as a paradox to many people, however, the success does not come from financial gains but rather the level of happiness and self-fulfillment within the individual. I believe in the thirty year old married man who is content with working at an ice cream shop all day and finally coming home to a wife who loves him regardless of his line of work. I used to think this scenario could never happen because my mother would always tell me that a medical degree was my only ticket to a beautiful house, life, and wife. “High paying job equals high quality wife,” she would say to me. It made perfect sense at the time. Average American children nowadays grow up being taught that they can become anything they dream of being, even if the profession is the president of the country. Although ambitions are always great to have, the truth is that most people will never end up with their dream job, house, car, spouse, etc.…

Friendship is a very powerful word. As children are growing up, their parents and family give them a taste of what friendship really is all about. Starting at a young age, it is smart for parents to teach children the significance of friendship. A friend should be someone who tells the other individual when they are doing wrong. They should influence them to do good, give them a shoulder to cry on, and be that person to talk to when sad. Friendships change over time as you move from childhood to adulthood, however, friendship exists in the positive relationships a person builds.…
