Thestory of Aged Mother
REACTION
Our elders have gone through a lot in their lifetime.
I think it is important to respect our elders because they have experienced life and gone through a lot more than we have. I think history has shown that we are a successful, rich country. I don’t think we would have the freedom and the respect from other countries if it weren’t for our elders and their sacrifice to get us where we are today.
I respect my grandfather because he was captured and taken to a concentration camp during World War II. My grandfather escaped from a camp, ran into the woods and went into hiding for a year. My grandfather is one of the lucky Jews that survived because he had the will to live. Why shouldn’t he be respected?
I respect my parents because they are the ones that brought me in this world and have taken care of me until I was able to take care of myself. I personally have a lot of respect for my parents because they did a lot for me over the years. I wouldn’t have the education without them. They got me where I am today and I am sure it wasn’t easy for them. I believe they deserve thanks for everything they have done for me and thus deserve my respect.
The idea of the importance of respecting our elders raised many questions in my mind.
Do most even know what respect is?
Wikipedia defines respect as taking into consideration the views and desires of others and incorporating it into your decisions and being truthful to people.
Why shouldn’t we respect anyone?
I think everyone should be respected unless given a reason not to be. When you meet someone for the first time are you disrespectful? No. Why should you be? I think everyone deserves a chance and once you get to know the person you can decide based on your own values whether or not you should respect them.
I have a lot of younger cousins that respect me because I am older and know more about life than they do.
I don’t think elders should be singled out and immediately respected because they are older. Why

National Honor Society Application Essay To begin, just like anything in life, we must define what we are doing. To define character, many people break it up into six different categories. These are called the six pillars of character, and go as follows: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship and caring. It is instructive to consider the impact of such views. If elderly people are seen by society as expected to die any time soon then they can be seen as less worthy and their quality of life less important. Resources tend to be directed towards younger people and society can view saving or prolonging the life of a younger person as more desirable than that of an…

Growing up in the United States is a much difference experience than Catherine Lim had while growing up in Malaysia. In the United States, people are not typically raised to respect their elders. Sure, people are told to, but it is not inherently in our blood to do so. As Lim describes in her story “Or Else, the Lightning God,” her upbringing is one that respects elders. Just as Margaret complains about her mother-in-law, she gets chastised by her mother and says that “the young should respect the old…or they will be punished. (Bozzini & Leenerts, 2001 p.463)”…

A great example of treating people with respect is bullying. Bullying happens all the time at all times of the day. People bully people in school, on the internet, and even at home. Sometimes the bully has the motive to hurt people and break someone else down because they are hurting on the inside themselves. The way they express themselves is the wrong way to do it, but it happens. I remember in school, they always said that a bully becomes a bully when they, themselves had been bullied. It is a serious matter these days because people hurt themselves for being bullied. That goes back to my point where I said that it could impact someone life.…

Another view of the elderly is that old people are all the same. It’s very unfortunate that there seems to be no individualism and that they are portrayed as one entity. Not everyone ages exactly the same. There are people in our society that view old people basically as helpless children or victims, when this is mostly never the case. I have two grandparents that just turned 80 years old and they are still working jobs. While they think of retiring soon, they like having a job because it gives them something to do. They are still independent and in pretty good health for their age. Obviously we lose mobility as we age, but most our health as seniors is depicted on how we treat our bodies when…

What is respect? Respect can be in various forms. It can be knowledge, self awareness, trust, character, honesty, understanding, and a positive attitude. But respect also has to be earned. If you can’t respect yourself then you won’t be able to respect others. To gain respect you have to treat others the way you would want to be treated.
