There have been many great short stories written, but two of my favorites are actually in this paper. I'm going to compare and contrast "The Lottery" and "The most dangerous game" using plot, conflict, and structure. These two books’ authors draw out these themes in very interesting and different ways. After reading both of these short stories I have decided to pic them to write about because in none of the other short stories offered, is there such an interest from me then these two short stories.

The first way these two books are alike is by their plot. They both are stories about the potential loss of life. Plot is so big in short stories, as is the case in any other book, movie, poem etc. These two stories have a very dark sided plot to them. “The most dangerous game” has a very dark plot because the authors make the protagonist get hunted by a rich man who finds it most exhilarating to hunt down humans. Finding a thrill in that is very dark. When it comes to “The Lottery” the author also has a very dark side to the plot. In this short story, the author decided to write about how in one town, one person must die. It does the town good and it’s just the way it’s been. As you can see, both of these authors of the short stories have a very dark plot to their tales.

The second way these stories are alike is conflict. Both stories conflict is that there is a person trying to escape death. Death in any circumstance is one of the most chilling, interesting, readable trait a character may have in any story, or even life. In “The most dangerous game” A rich man pays a visitor a lot of money to be hunted. It’s a very interesting storyline and a great conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist. When two people are battling for life, or in this case, when one person is trying to escape death, it is the most interesting conflict because there is no coming back from the dead. Theresa no return and it is final, so that’s what makes it so

While one may look at Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game" and Ernest Hemmingway's "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" and pass them off as basically the same, he should be reminded of the cliché "don't judge a book by its cover." Although both are short stories, each work encompasses a number of elements that are characteristically associated with either commercial or literary fiction. By evaluating the author's use of elements of fiction, such as plot, theme, and characterization, and the literary devices diction, figurative language, and detail, one can come to the conclusion that neither story is better than the other.…

Both authors show that through both societal standards and learned behavior, many injustices and cruelties can be accepted as normal behavior.…

In “The Most Dangerous Game”, the main setting is an island called Ship-Trap that is also consumed by evil. The similarities in both of these stories in a setting perspective, is that the island and the forest are both full of evil. It is both nonfiction and a personal account, while the other two stories are fiction, “The Most Dangerous Game” being adventure fiction, and “A Sound of Thunder” science fiction. Compared to both stories, “Being Prey” is also very short. It doesn’t really have many different characters, and it doesn’t have too many different elements and subplots going into it; it is purely a telling of a misfortune the author went through. Though they were all very different, all of the stories had good pacing and were written well. Every story also kept the reader in suspense, as we had no idea what would happen next, and each story had the factor of possible…

Betrayal is the first similarity between the two stories, “The Veldt” & “The Lottery”, this is since both stories have characters that have betrayed their own people. The Veldt & the Lottery have their differences and similarities throughout the story. In the Veldt, the children have betrayed their own parents, while in “the Lottery” Tessie Hutchinson’s supposed “friends” wanted to stone her to death over a lottery ticket. The children and the villagers betrayed their own kind because they wanted their own way instead of another. I believe betrayal is cruel, especially on your own kind which is considered a traitor, which has happened towards the end of each story.…
