Most Dangerous Game Vs High Noon Essay
The two stories High Noon, and "the Most Dangerous Game" are very different, but also very similar. High Noon is about a sheriff who must protect his town from a bad guy. The most dangerous game is about a very well-known hunter. He falls off a yacht and swims to the mysterious Ship-Trap island. On that island is a very skilled hunter who hunts humans. In both stories there is only one way out and that is to survive/win. One thing they have in common is the setting. For example, they are both isolated. "Countryside-on the moving train"(Foreman 326). The only way out of Hadleyville is the train. "Mirage" thought Rainsford but it was no mirage, he found when he opened the tall spiked iron gate. The stone steps were real enough; the stone steps were real enough; the massive door with a leering gargoyle for a knocker was real enough; yet it hung in all unreality" (Connell ). This quote shows how surprised he is when he finds a mansion in the middle of the island not just any island though its ship-trap island in the middle of the ocean. The only way out for Rainsford "one of the main characters in "the Most Dangerous Game" is a boat. But the setting is also different. For example High Noon is in the old west and it's in the desert. And "the Most Dangerous Game" takes place …show more content…
"Im not trying to be a hero if you think I like this, you are crazy. Amy look, this is my town"(Foreman 296). This proves that Kane the main character in High Noon shows emotion. "The world is made up of two different classes- the hunters and the hunted, luckily you and I are hunters" (Connell 212). This shows that the characters in "the Most Dangerous Game" just throw away their feelings, it's as if they didn't have any feelings at all. Also for High Noon, Kane has never run in his life. The first time he did he couldn't he had to go back to protect his town. This shows how the stories are different because one shows feeling and one

The setting of these two stories shows us the isolation of the characters. There is no escape. In High Noon, Kane is trapped in town with no escape from Frank Miller. The town is in the middle of nowhere, with only a single railroad track that leads into and out of town. In The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford is physically trapped on Ship-Trap island. He can't escape even if he wanted to. The island is in the middle of nowhere, with no other land nearby. These stories both show the feeling of no escape. But, High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game settings are also completely different. Their…

I have recently watched a movie called High Noon and just read a short story called "The Most Dangerous Game." High Noon came out in theaters in 1952 and is about a Marshall who has four criminals who want revenge on him for putting one of them in jail. It has cowboys and gun fights in the Old West. "The Most Dangerous Game" came out in 1924 and is about hunting and the main character surviving all by himself. Both of these stories are very well told and partly have suspense. They might have a lot of similarities but they also have many differences in the two main characters, conflict, and the theme.…

The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell, is an original nonfiction story about two hunters who take themselves into the Amazon to hunt down animals. Rainsford, one of the main hunters, ends up finding himself on a mysterious island after an accident occurs. Comparing to the film, the characters throughout the scenes differentiate in many ways. Although, the short story itself is entertaining. The changes such as the shipwreck, a love interest, and character development that the director produces a much more dramatic plot, placing the audience on the edge of their seats.…

Both of the main characters have many similarities as well as the setting, while the theme has many differences. Even though we never found out the physical appearance traits of both main characters, In the end, both protagonist from both novels High Noon and The Most Dangers Game conveyed strong, brave, tough, courageous personality traits that allowed them to revive the best outcome for the both of them in the conclusion which they were exceedingly critical in the final result. Although both High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game shares many similarities throughout the difference in theme was significant to the plot and conclusion. High noon portrayed a theme of the responsibility a person has to society verses self interest and how Will Kane knew he was doing the right thing by staying by his town to protect them from the harm that was coming even though there was a great possibly of him getting killed While on the other hand went towards a more subtle theme which was how fear can really change a man. Wrapping up everything, the desolated, remote, isolated qualities both the setting of the Western town of High Noon portrayed and the jungle of The Most Dangerous game portrayed were extremely compatible with the antagonist of both novels in the beginning because the lawless effect of both the town and the jungle made it possible for them…

In Richard Connell’s short story, The Most Dangerous Game, is based around a famous New Yorker hunter who fell off a boat and swims to an isolated and much feared island, called the “Ship Trap Island”. Rainsford, a famous hunter in New York was travelling to the Amazon forest to hunt the Jaguar. While on board passing the much-feared Ship Trap Island, he heard three gunshots. Trying to get a better look, he went on to the deck but unexpectedly drops his cigar. Trying to reach for it, he fell into the sea without anyone responding to his cries for help. He decides to swim to the island where he finds a Chateau, with two Cossacks living in there. One was General Zaroff while the other was his mute and deaf giant assistant, Ivan. General gave Rainsford a dinner and some clothes, where General told Rainsford a little of his background and that hunting no longer excite him. Over time, he told Rainsford his “Game”, which is to basically hunt humans. Sailors of boats that were damaged would be sent off to the jungle with food, a knife and some clothes. If he can resist capture from Zaroff, Ivan or his hounds for 3 days, then he wins the game. But so far, no one has been able to achieve that. The next person he wants to hunt is Rainsford, and should he refuse, Ivan will kill him. Rainsford then uses three methods in an attempt to win the game. The first resulted in him getting caught, but General decided not to kill him then but to play a “cat and mouse” game. The second he sets a pit which killed one of the General’s hounds. Thirdly, he sets another trap that killed Ivan, but not the General. In the end, he jumps off a cliff to avoid the approaching hounds. General thought he was dead but when he returned to his bedroom that night, Rainsford was waiting for him there. Rainsford then decided to have a knife fight with General, admitting, “I’m still a beast at bay”, which the loser would be fed off to the hounds and the winner gets to sleep in General’s bed. In the end,…

Picture this: You're fighting for your life, by yourself, with no one by your side to tell you it will be alright. You hear footsteps, gun shots, and the clock ticking to the sound of your death. You realize that this could be your last or luckiest day on earth. This plot is played perfectly by Marshal Will Kane from High Noon, and hunter Sanger Rainsford from "The Most Dangerous Game." High Noon is a western movie about a newly married Marshal by the name of Will Kane, who finds out that his enemy, Frank Miller, is coming back to town from jail, to get revenge and eliminate him since Kane put him in jail. "The Most Dangerous Game," is a short story about a hunter by the name of Sanger Rainsford who realizes the true emotion of the hunted…

The settings, which are both isolated, have a crucial role in the story. It allows both characters to each be their own person. The main characters are not alike because Rainsford holds his emotions in and doesn't want them to get in the way, while Kane lets them out. The conflict is different as well. Kane has a choice to stay or leave his town of Hadleyville, but Rainsford has no choice to stay or leave and is stuck on the island. Overall, both stories are like each other, yet different in other…

My two books for this comparison essay are “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. “The Lottery” is about the town’s people drawing out slips of paper and seeing who gets the slip of paper with the black pencil dot; however The Hunger Games is about Katniss taking her sister's place when she’s called into the Hunger Games and trying to survive in the arena with Peeta in the Hunger Games. This book ends with Katniss and Peeta winning the Hunger Games and the two of them returning to District 12 with mixed feelings for each other, and an unforgettable experience. The first irony in the story is the title. “The Most Dangerous Game” becomes a horrifying reality rather than a game for Rainsford when he becomes the hunted. Rainsford has been the hunter his whole career until he landed on Shiptrap Island. By the time he realizes what he had gotten himself into, he finds himself fleeing for his life. The readers may think this short story is about a mere game, but it becomes more than that in actuality.…

People have always sought to escape their mundane realities through fantastic stories. Richard Connell “The most dangerous game” provides this type of reprieve from reality. The first similarity in both stories is someone had got eaten by an animal. In "The Most Dangerous Game" the end resulted in a fight between Rainsford and Zaroff and the loser would get fed to the dogs, while the winner would get a nice bed to sleep on. Likewise in "The Interlopers" After Ulrich and Georg met face to face, a storm struck a birch tree just right over their heads pinning both of them to the ground. Minutes after trading insults and making up, they finally thought help is on the way in the end it turns out to be wolves. Another similarity is both characters had deep hate for one another. In "The Most Dangerous Game" Rainsford hated Zaroff because he was hunting innocent men for the joy of killing them. In "The Interlopers" Ulrich Von Gradwiz hated Georg because he was hunting on his land and Georg hated Ulrich because he claims that the land was his.…

In the result of the transition of "The Most Dangerous Game" from literature to film, many aspects were altered. Though some are superficial, such as the appearance of "General Zaroff" and the movie's Count Zaroff, or the physical conditions of Ivan, others are quite noticeable. For example, concerning the introduction, the exchange between the short story's "Sanger Rainsford" and the film's Robert Rainsford and Whitney was altered to the extent that new characters were involved in it. The following scene, regarding the advent of Rainsford to Ship Trap Island, was modified heavily. It was adjusted to the degree that instead of having Rainsford falloff the ship and swimming to Ship Trap Island, his yacht was lured by Zaroff's lights, which were built specifically to lead to dangerous rocks. The ship sank and sharks, with the sole exception of Rainsford, ate everyone aboard. A final decision undertaken was concerned with the scene where Zaroff hunts Rainsford; it was remodeled to the inclusion of an extra character and a shorter time span to survive. Clearly, they're many differences between these two versions.…
