The plot in this short story demonstrates this as it is about a technological house in the future that is one of the last to stand. The plot explains the controversial idea of technology and its rapid growth leading to mass human death as well as the life of others. “It sniffed the air and scratched the kitchen door. Behind the door, the stove was making pancakes which filled the house with a rich baked odor and the scent of maple syrup. The dog frothed at the mouth, lying at the door, sniffing, its eyes turned to fire. It ran wildly in circles, biting at its tail, spun in a frenzy, and died.” The death of the dog clearly shows the emptiness that was there as the dog could not find anything to support him/her.
