The Similarities And Differences Between Will Allen And The Colonists
To be an American means to grow politically, socially, economically and culturally as individuals and as a nation. Throughout history America has adapted and progressed as a country through success and setbacks. Will Allen and colonists throughout history share many characteristics and experiences in success through failure. These movements and experiences developed America and Allen into what they are today.
The king ruled over all of the colonists at a point in time when absolute monarchy occurred regularly. The colonists didn't like having one person rule over everyone because it was unfair and gave one man to much power. On top of the unfair monarchy the colonists did not have religious freedom, had to be controlled by tyranny, and had little wealth. Back then one man could control the fate of an entire nation which wasn't appealing to many of the colonists. The colonists were seeking religious freedom and more economic wealth so they left their own homes in Great Britain just so they could come to America, they no longer wanted to be controlled by a tyranny. …show more content…
Will Allen was working at a Kentucky Fried Chicken for a while but over time felt like he had lost his passion and what he wanted to end up doing with his life. Eventually he came to the point where he left his job because he saw the perfect opportunity with a flower shop for sale. Gardening and helping the community were both passions he wanted to pursue so he took a risk and bought the shop. This can relate greatly to the colonists because they didn't like what they were doing and how they were being controlled so they took a risk and fled to America not sure of what they would

    Americans were guided by the British having the same beliefs and doing what they were told. Shortly, this would all change when the government started to make acts. These acts were passed due to the debt (140 million pounds) of the Seven Years’ War. In Britain taxes were common and were even getting raised but, for Americans it was unfamiliar to have such a thing as taxes to help the government economically. It all started out with the Sugar Act in 1764, it increased the duty on sugar being imported from the West Indies. The colonist didn’t approve of this act and started to protest and as a result the tax started to lower, later it died out. Protest didn’t stop just there but continued once the Quartering Act came out in 1765. This made colonist provide food to British troops. While making this new act they started to enforce a new tax called the stamp tax. This tax was not for the debt, but to support the new military force. The tax was for all legal documents to be stamped which certified that the tax was paid. Again, the Americans began to protest but this time they took action. They gathered in assemblies and refused to do as the Quartering Act asked for and voted they would only provide only half of the materials they were asked for to give to the troops. This refusal to do as they were told later came known as Greenville’s aggression. The British, seeing as the colonist were taking control over the colony, began to have admiralty…
