The American Colonists: Free Itself From Great Britain
The American Colonist wanted to free themselves from Great Britain because Britain was applying to much control over the colonies. The colonist believed that it was their right to over throw a government that didn’t protect their rights. The colonies were used to very little involvement from Britain. When Britain started to control everything they did, they didn’t want to put up with it anymore.
After the 7 year war Britain was really high in debt. They started to make them pay new taxes and help them pay off their debt. One of the taxes that were put on them was the stamp act. The stamp act was basically everyone had to pay for every piece of paper that was publish and printed. It did not bring in a lot of money so they canceled it. They

    I had no knowledge of how the taxes on items had come about. In order to get the British out of debt, they started to tax the American colonies instead of their own people. It is kind of like karma, they tried to better themselves but in the long run they only hurt themselves even more.     They wanted to do things for themselves. Great Britain told them what to do. The American people didn't want people away from them telling them how to live their lives. A cause for this revaluation is trade. The mercantile system was based on the benefits of trading in which the flow of raw materials from the colonies that profited Great Britain who turned them into finished goods which had a higher value than raw materials. Americans had to trade goods that they had in abundance in exchange for goods which were scarce in their own region. Triangular Trade, coupled with the British policy of Mercantilism, provided a “favorable balance of trade” but only to Great Britain. This ensured that gold and silver, and all domestic money, stayed in England. Another reason was the Navigation Acts. The Navigation Acts was to encourage England shipping and allow Great Britain to retain the monopoly of england's colonial trade for the benefit of British merchants. Another reason was the 1689 British bill of rights. The 1689 English Bill of Rights was passed which put into place a constitutional form of government in which the rights and liberties of the individual were protected under British law. The Americans argued that they were not afforded the same rights. the last reasons was the policy in the colonies. in 1696 it suited the british to a adopt policy of salutary neglect avoiding the strict enforcement of parliamentary laws in Colonial America which gave the colonies a lot of freedom in economic matters. Between 1763-1775 the English tried to reverse the policy of Salutary Neglect in order to pay for war debts, tighten their control in the colonies, enforce the Navigation Acts and other laws and impose new taxes on goods.…
