The Secret Annex Invision living for two years in a place that restricts an individual’s every action and forbids them from doing what they love. Well, this vision was a reality for Anne Frank and seven others, who were hiding in the Secret Annex from the chaos in their country. The Secret Annex provided these Jews with a sense of comfort, but also was the location of much fear and stress, during this depressing time. To begin, this hiding was caused by the inhumane actions brought upon the Jews since 1933 in Europe. In fact, “The Frank family goes into hiding in 1942. Unfortunately, most of intentions were not fulfilled, for most hiders were discovered. Not only the Secret Annex, but also other locations, provided these Jews a sense of relief, and safeness during their struggle. Sadly, the sense of relief and safeness may have been overpowered by the scariness of the time. During the time of their hiding, “They will not be able to go outside and they will have to share the darkness and dampness of the hiding place, continually fearful of being discovered…” (annefrank.org 2017). This means that everyday they spent hiding was in silence and with no interaction with the outside world. In addition to that, they had to spend two years with the same people, even if they disliked them. Inside the Secret Annex it was tense, due to constant stress and suffering that was brought upon these individuals’ lives. In brief, the Holocaust was a period of time that brought great sadness to our world. Especially to those in the Secret Annex, who spent two years of their lives in constant dread, but with the comfort of their family.
